Crave sugar. Love it. Have to have your chocolate?
Hands up?
Yep. Me too! Back in late 2019 I was finding sugar overwhelming me and had almost given up on myself…
And…
Finally said…
This is it, I have got to believe that I am better than this. I can do this, I need to know that my health is more than that scrumptious piece of chocolate in front of me, right?
And so…
I made that commitment to myself.
And…
For 2 years, yes, 2 years, I did it. I stopped eating all things chocolate.
But…
In this last year, I slowly allowed myself to add desserts back into my diet.
And…
That leads me to this book.
It appears that once sugar re-enters the body, there is also a craving, and that is what I had forgotten when I finally was free of sugar back in 2019.
And…
That craving has been my struggle. I don’t like thinking about food and obsessing about it, or wondering about what dessert I want to devour at my next meal – especially being a person who has had an issue with disordered eating.
So…
I was interested to see what this author’s methods were in addressing how to break the hold sweets have on our lives. (That is also part of the title of her book!)
In her book…
She breaks it down into 3 parts: breaking free from cravings; harnessing your inner power for success; and, eat smart for life.
Oh…
And…
She is very particular about pointing us to Chapter 7 for a Break-Your-Craving-State Technique and Chapter 8 for directions on High-Nutrition eating...
And...
Encouraging readers to feel free to go to these chapters first so we can get started right away. There is also a 2-week nutrition cleanse.
Which...
I did go to those chapters first.
And...
It seemed like what I was seeing was a lot of…
Drink lots of water. Eat water foods. Lists. Hmmm…
Sounds like a lot of what we already know.
So…
To be honest…
I've learned we need to eat things in moderation to break the cravings for it.
And...
I didn’t find a lot of value in the book, like I had hoped.
I had to skip the middle. The beginning was informational and the end was encouraging but everything in between was just...not for me. The author really encourages a lot of hypnosis, deep breathing type stuff and I just couldn't get into it. If anything this book taught me I do not need a cure. This book is for food addicts! The author wants you to believe that there is some deep emotional issues you have that are making you want sweets. She encourages you to love yourself and do deep breathing. I love sweets but I wouldnt go so far to say I'm an emotional eater. This book was just a little too much for me.
