Bells Will Be Ringin': A Hilson Family Christmas Novella

Rate this book
There’s no place like home for the holidays—unless your inability to mind your own business creates a strain in your family. Harper Hilson has good intentions, but last year her over-protective persona was not the gift her siblings hoped to receive. Last Christmas, Harper managed to ruin a lucrative business deal for her sister, Wesleigh and destroyed her brother, Donovan’s relationship with his one true love. This year she’s determined to make amends.

As much as she seeks to have a harmonious holiday with her family, that small mission is growing to be more difficult each day as unresolved drama from Christmas past takes on new twist and turns that even Harper couldn’t have predicted. She will have to decide if she should intervene on her sibling’s behalf or wait and see how the drama unfolds.

Michelle Mitchell has always been creative; the builder of play forts, and the writer of numerous songs that she hoped to hear on the radio. She always enjoyed singing, dancing, reading and writing. One of her dreams was to be a backup dancer for Janet Jackson, but when that didn’t happen, she continued to focus on songwriting. She knew she could shine brightest if she could work in a field where she could create, but she had an awkward start in finding her voice.

A Georgia native, Michelle attended Georgia Southern University where she majored in Communication Arts and minored in Journalism. After graduating, she had a short stint as a feature writing before returning to school and entering corporate America. Needing a creative outlet in between courses, Michelle got inspired and began working on her first novel, Truth Is....

In December 2015, Brown Girls Books put out a call for submissions for an anthology called, The Ex Chronicles. Michelle's submission was selected out of the 300 submissions received. The anthology was published March 8, and would be her first published work. Truth Is... will be her second published manuscript.

When she’s not writing, she enjoys trying new restaurants, traveling, and reading. Michelle is a die-hard fanatic of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Hawks. She still resides in Georgia, where she is a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Marietta. You can write her at authormichellemitchell@gmail.com.

Short and sweet Nook edition. Absolutely hilarious! Harper has always been a second mother to her siblings until her meddling destroys their dreams. So this Christmas, Harper vows to keep her nose out of their business. But then Christmas dinner turns into a real turkey trot, when her ex-boyfriend, his estranged wife, his wife's undercover lover, the boyfriend's secret fiancee and a few assorted relatives start drinking the special eggnog and then it's on!

A Favorite Holiday Re-read!
Note to Author: Michelle, I forgot about the part when Harper's father is singing his version of "SEXUAL HEALING" to his wife and how Harper's siblings react. I laughed so hard I caught a pain in my side! As my father would say, "Girl you put your foot" in this awesome story.

This book is definitely worth the read. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard. It will be a holiday read for me going forward. Without giving away the story it was full of love and comedy. The Hilson family gave me everything I needed in a Holiday read. Michelle Mitchell’s writing style just made the entire story flow and I couldn’t put this book down.

Whew!

I loved this book from beginning to end, although I disliked Terri on sight. It's always a THOT like her hating on the sidelines. That whole fight scene was hilarious. Jabari seems like a good dude, but way too much baggage and drama going on here. Felix...just trifling but money makes people blind, I guess. Overall great read.

This book had me laughing so much. Harper is the typical big sister looking out for her siblings, even when they don’t need her help. This year has made a vow to, MIND HER BUSINESS. Can Harper really keep her nose out of other peoples affairs, READ THIS BOOK and discover for yourself.

Bells and Bombshells are ringin’

The Hilson Family Christmas dinner delivered on all the full blown crazy at family gatherings during the holidays. Harper Hilson, the oldest of the three Hilson children hopes to have a better Christmas & redeem herself after she destroyed the previous Christmas by meddling in her siblings personal and business affairs. Just when she thought she could come out unscathed, a couple of outside invitations to the family dinner quickly thrusted Harper in the hot seat. What’s worse is that while Harper is in the center of everyone’s drama, she can’t seem to get on the right path with her own man.

At first, Harper and her meddling ways and unstoppable mouth was irritating to the point you wouldn’t mind if she were excommunicated from the family holiday altogether. Then as the mess hit the fan you couldn’t help but root for Harper and even be proud of her for her restraint and resilience. In the end, this lifetime crazy family with genuine love, and Christmas Day Foolery is just what is needed to prepare for the holidays.

Harper Hilson is ALWAYS minding someone else’s business but can’t seem to tend to her own. Last Christmas she managed to ruin her brother’s relationship and a major business deal for her sister. Can she mend her sibling relationships while dealing with new drama that has nothing to do with her this Christmas? Can she get her own relationship going in the right direction? Or will she cause more trouble as usual? Bells Will Be Ringing is a quick and enjoyable read. The characters are lively and have you turning the pages to the end in no time.

Super cute and super good!!! Nothing like some Christmas drama to keep you laughing!! This story is a prime example of why you should mind your own business and why everyone cannot be invited to Christmas dinner!!! Or a BBQ for that matter!!!!

I enjoyed this quick holiday read. The Hilson family was interesting, none more than Harper with all her antics. I was glad to see her growth by the end. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen between her and Jabari, but I was happy with the ending.

Loved it!

Bells Will Be Ringing was a page-turner, comedy, and drama all wrapped up in a neat package. The Hilson family was hilarious as they worked through family issues from Christmas past by extending forgiveness and love.

Happy Christmas

This story was so endearing. Loved the way the drama entangled and worked itself out. Harper meant well but sometimes good intentions aren't the best intentions. My first read from this author but I will surely continue. This story flowed wonderfully.

I enjoyed this Christmas story. The gathering reminded me of spending time with family during the holidays. Harper was a busy body but I liked her. Some people are just nosy by nature. I think she learned her lesson from the Christmas prior. Old habits die hard. She wanted to meddle so bad.
It was fun watching her struggle about minding her business. The drama was just enough. I liked the whole family and would love to read more about them.

Bells Will Be Ringing was just ok to me. Maybe it was the nosey sister minding everyone's business but her own. I just felt like it was missing something. I did however like the commitment of family over everything for the holidays and the happy ending. For that I'll give it 3.5, I'll round up instead of down.

Hallmark Movie in print

This was such a fun and quick read. It's giving Christmas Hallmark movie vibes. Wholesome suburbanites, quirky secondary characters, medium-level drama, and a happy ending. Quite enjoyable.

What an amazing read

I loved Harper she was trying her best to avoid the drama, but Terri couldn't leave well enough alone I was glad Meeghan read her it seems to me like she was jealous of Harper in high school and still is.

I loved this book as it had all the things to make a good book. From the beginning, Michelle Mitchell develops her storyline with a diverse group of relatable characters and carries it throughout the book. I literally laughed out loud while reading. I was a little thrown off as the author had a little twist in the ending. I look forward to reading more from this author.

The holiday season is supposed to be spent with family and loved ones, but last year Harper Hilson managed to leave with her siblings not speaking to her. This year, she wants to repair their relationships, but drama seems to find her at every turn.

Will she stick to the promise she made to her mother and stay out of trouble or will she give in and risk it all?

These are the questions that will be answered in this 💎💎💎💎short story by @authormichellemitchell.

This is my first read by the author, but certainly not my last. I highly recommend it for the holiday season...and be prepared to be entertained.

SCREAMING!!! Michelle Mitchell DID THAT!

HILARIOUS from beginning to end... “Bells Will Be Ringing” played out in my head like a “Classic Holiday” movie that I’d watch every year. With quick wit, comedic flair & drama filled flow....The characters were relatable, realistic & memorable. I would definitely be down for reading an annual release following “The Hilson’s FAMILY DRAMA!”

When the daddy hollered WORLDSTER...I HOLLERED OUT LOUD😂😂😂

The bells did ring...

Really enjoyed this offering by this author. Harper is the family busy body and several times throughout this book I wanted to strangle her with my bare hands. At times she reminded me of the fierce older sister that I'm often accused of being. Her relationships with her siblings and parents was full of fun. I have to admit I wanted to throw shade at her relationship with Charles,LOL.

Harper Hilson is looking forward to a drama free Christmas with her family since last Christmas was anything but, the harder she tried for it to be drama free the more the drama came.

This was a quick , funny and full of drama Christmas story. This was my first book by this author and I plan to read more of her work.
