I bought this book when it was first published to lend to anyone who seriously asks me ‘What’s bellringing about?’ because it is very readable and covers both the ‘art’ (history, sociability, and ethos) and the ‘science’ (method ringing. Everyone, bar one, has enjoyed it (though some have glazed over at the section on splicing methods), pronouncing it very useful.
