Die Weimarer Republik (1918–1933) als erste deutsche Demokratie gilt als Zeit der Krisen und der Übergänge – vom deutschen Kaiserreich bis zum totalitären Regime im Nationalsozialismus. Published in conjunction with the exhibition under the same title at the Schrin Kunsthalle Frankfurt this is the typically excellent English language version of the exhibition catalogue. Published in a sensible sized hardback format it is heavily and illustrated with the exhibition exhibits and contains a number of essays on aspects of the Weimar period relating to the production and consumption of art and culture and how the vibrant politics of the time both affected and are reflected in it. It not only compliments what was an outstanding exhibition but stands on its own as a thought provoking introduction to the artists and the influences of their time.

Good resource if you need an overview of Weimar art and culture. Wasn’t enormously in-depth on any of the female artists, other than Jeanne Mommen, who was featured in a couple of chapters. Given I was looking for further information on Lotte Laserstein it was just somewhat helpful.
