Wynar (editor-in-chief of American Reference Books Annual ) responds to the growing volume of Ukrainian literature and analysis by providing approximately 1,700 annotations of books, articles, scholarly essays, and dissertations published about the Ukraine in the last decade. Each organizing category, such as economics, linguistics, literature, religions, performing arts, and environment is introduced with an overview of recent developments, important authors, and major works. About half of the bibliography's pages are devoted to Ukrainian history and politics, focusing on topics like the dissolution of the Soviet Union, post-Soviet nationality policies, and Ukrainian nationalism.
