Seminal forward thinking work. It’s so fascinating- Hard to believe many of the papers in it were written nigh on 100 years ago. It was the basis for research s d education videos I’m doing. This is essential reading for anyone interested in anthropology of art and the history of art.

I'm not terribly interested in Romanesque art, but in this book, Schapiro presents a great survey of fantastic artefacts and architecture from the medieval period. A wonderful storyteller.
