This book is a guide to the translation of English texts from the Old and Middle English periods. The book contains a subtle combination of theory and practice: Old and Middle English grammar is illustrated through a specially-chosen variety of texts. Each text is accompanied by a glossary organised by grammatical categories, and also includes two sections devoted to syntactic analysis at phrase and at clause level. Together. the various sections provide a rigorous method to undertake the comprehension of the early English texts in a systematic way.
