'kompert appartient à cette classe d'écrivains qui ne produisent ni vite ni beaucoup à la fois. Il travaille à loisir, à ses heures seulement. Voilà pourquoi ses écrits sont en général si achevés. Il ne publie guère plus d'une ou deux Nouvelles par an. Et d'ordinaire il les fait paraître comme primeur dans quelque almanach israélite de Vienne. Après quoi il réunit ces publications partielles en un petit volume; et ces petits volumes font promptement leur chemin en Allemagne et à l'étranger 1.
