I have been searching for this book for years! When I was in elementary school I would borrow this from the library and read it over and over again. About a young girl -neglected by her alcoholic Mom and her boyfriend- who forges a new family with a couple that owns a nearby ranch. I'm sure this is long out of print but would love a copy if you've got one!

I've had this book since I was a horse crazy child and it's remained one of my favorites; it's a very comfortable, enjoyable read. The information regarding horses isn't the most accurate (you don't breed two palominos to produce a palomino, for instance), but I've loved the story regardless. It's a story of endurance and having a good supper system, even if they aren't the ones you'd expect. Can't tell you how many times I've read it, and I know this wasn't the last read.

This is a sweet story, fictional and old. The title made me read this book, some of our children are going through hardship one way or another: then it is worth the read. Better than other self-help: a story with characters
