Demonic Contract

Tora's been on a lot of awful blind dates. All she wants is to find someone who loves her for who she is, which might be a tall order considering she's part demon. But then she goes out with the gorgeous Edan, and the pair immediately hit it off. Edan's forthcoming about being a dragon, and royalty, to boot, which only makes Tora even more reluctant to risk ruining things by telling him about her demon heritage. However, no matter how hard she tries, she can't keep it a secret forever.

First I must say the beginning of the book gave me a bit of a vibe that it was a spin-off of another series only because it continually hints at Tora’s deal with him… as though the readers should know who him is. It left me a bit confused at first because I wanted to make sure it was the first book in the series and I had mistakenly picked up the second book. I quickly realized that this was a short novella type of read.

That being said I did enjoy reading it for the most parts but feel like it was to quickly wrapped up. Any conflicts were taken care of in a two-three page pace not really exploring what could be.

Honestly speaking I have some real mixed feeling about this story. I finished it in one sitting but at 79 pages that isn’t a tough thing to do. I liked the characters, the plot and it’s twist- I on;y wish it was more developed as I think it would truly make for a very good read.

A blind-date with their friends brings Tora and Edan together but the fact that she’s part demon might drive them apart.

I highly doubt I’m the target audience for this book as it seemed a little on the simplistic side to me but I liked it anyway. I’d say this is more of a romance novel than anything else, as the relationship between Tora and Edan was the primary focus of the plot. Actually I thought that was a bit of a shame as the paranormal world Banks constructs is actually quite intriguing; I’m really hoping there will be more to the plot than just romance in book 2. While things do move fast between Tora and Edan, I can’t entirely blame it on the fact that the book is a novella, as the fast moving relationship is explained to the reader towards the end of the book.

Even though I’m outside of the YA/NA age bracket, I think this trilogy has a lot of potential and I look forward to reading book 2.

When two equally strong forces clash, sparks will fly.
Tora is dragged on yet another double date with her roommate Emily and her boyfriend, already defensive and assuming the worst. But this time, Edan definitely gets her attention, and more. But Tora's true nature is her most treasured secret, and she is afraid of losing Edan if he ever learns the truth. Nevertheless, the dragon prince is reluctant to let go of his demonic girlfriend, and when even both families agree, there is an open way to a contract.
Nice quick read, full of fire and raw energy, emotional, with action and suspense. Tora and Edan are likeable lead characters, interesting and realistic, and the magical world does have certain charms itself. But I would love to see the story more fleshed out, it felt somehow summarized and cut short. Adding some details and bridging the scenes more would certainly benefit the story, and it would strengthen the potential connection to the reader.

This was a fun novella to read. Right away we are plunged into knowing things aren't normal as the book starts with the MC Tora being worried her blind date will be an actual physical troll. We learn she has a secret regarding her own nature (it's in the blurb though) and is extremely reluctant to let anyone know about it. The blind date that her friend Emily sets her up on is with Edan and it goes better than she could have hoped for.

From there the book explores their developing relationship and what happens when they meet each others family. Not to mention tests how strong their new relationship is. It's a fun short read and I'm looking forward to seeing how the author follows it up, especially given how much of the world in the book there is that can be explored.

I really enjoyed this book!

What a great start to what I hope will be a multi book series. Emily has set up her roommate on several horrible blind dates so when she suggests one more, Tora is very sceptical. Edan has been on a few blind dates himself and has the same reservations. Sparks literally fly when they meet even though they are both hiding something. A fun read with an ending that left me wanting more!

Demon Contract by Catherine Banks is book #1 in the Dragon Kissed Trilogy. This is a very short read but I really enjoyed it. Likeable characters and an interesting storyline make you wish for more. I am posting an honest review after reading an ARC copy of this book.

Two strong characters who are just right for each other. They understand each other and their weird powers. Not to mention their seriously strange family.
A fun read, with my only complaint being that it was just too short!

Great!

This book was not at all what I expected, so of course I loved it. Funny, exciting and unpredictable. My only real complaint would be that it's too short. When is more coming? I wait with baited breath!
