After an emotional talk with his sister Veronica, Kristian decides he wants to do something all ancient vampires yearned for—have a child.
Even though he and Tessa’s relationship had been nothing less than rocky, he knew that if he were to have a child with anyone, it needed to be her. Despite all they had gone through, he loved Tessa and wanted a child born into love. However, there was the obvious dilemma that Tessa was human.
Wagering with Benjamin for his freedom, they call on his help to find Calder witches that would be able to turn Tessa human so that they could have a child. When they meet with the witches, they are heeded with many warnings: it was too dangerous for Tessa to carry the child herself, the child would have to be carried by a witch, and like all things, there was a price to pay. Tessa would be cursed from turning human, and the curse would follow their child, and their children to come.
With heavy hearts, they proceed, recruiting Calla to be their surrogate, with the promise that she and Jared could have a child after they did. Taking all the safety precautions possible, Calla and Jared retreat to the Rocky Mountains, far away from newborn vampires as well as the Calder, and the witches who assisted are kept under close watch. For months, things go perfectly. The family is agleam with excitement for their new addition, soon to come. When suddenly, Calla goes into premature labor. The family scrambles to help—however, the witches who helped, are nowhere to be found. Panic is instantaneous. Everything is in the balance. Finding the witches could mean life and death for them all.

Baby fever
Now that Kristian is a human again Veronica asked him about wanting a baby 🚼. He and Tessa said yes. However, they would have to get a Calder witch to turn Tessa human. They would then have to have a surrogate witch to carry the baby. Calla and Jared agreed to do it, and Kristian would ask Edna to do the same for Jared so he and Calla could have a baby. Calla and Jared went into hiding while she was pregnant to be safe.
When Calla went into premature labor, Morgan had to get the witches there asap. But while he was sleeping , Benjamin and Abigail escaped with Edna, Cody and Charley. They were bringing them to the Calder coven in hope of getting back into their good graces and by telling them about the baby.
Meanwhile Calla went into premature labor and delivered a baby girl named Mira Autumn (Mimi). However, they found a package in front of the house and when they looked inside they found the heads of Cody, Edna, and Charley. The Calder had found them. They have to leave right away. But where would they go? And how are Jared and Calla going to have their baby with no witch to turn him human? What a great series.

Proofread!
This is a good story but the lack of good grammar and vocabulary requires that I re-read a lot to get the intended meaning. The books are short stories that could have benefited from a little more attention. The author continually uses the expression "to harbor" when "to dwell" would be clearer and to the point. The leader of this group at the beginning was Ally but in this book, she is referred to as Amy. Are there different writers involved? Ms Woods, clean it up.

This series is just brilliant. I enjoy each book more and more as I go along through the series as I love supernatural books and this one was no exception.
In this book, I particularly loved the developments in Kristian and Tessa's lives and I am now also dying to continue the next book to find out what happens after a bit of a cliffhanger!
