Phil Dunlap's book, CALL OF THE GUN, remains one of may favorite works of this experienced writer. As much a mystery as a western, follows not a character, but a gun, specifically a Colt .45 Peacemaker--a refreshing trope wrapped in a traditional western. The prose is smooth and easy, and the historical details fit perfectly to the story. Dunlap offers a fresh voice to the western genre. Pick this one up, if you haven't already.
