Glass Engraving: Lettering and Design

Rate this book
David Peace is one of England's foremost glass engravers and here he examines the history of letter forms and techniques of glass engraving. He covers many new aspects of lettering from design principles. Goblets, bowls and decanters are analyzed in detail, together with examples of architectural glass, in situ engraving and sandblasting for large-scale work. Stress is laid on design in relation to its site. Presentation glass, heraldry, trophies and windows are all dealt with and a chapter is devoted to the work of many present-day master craftsmen. The book also throws new light on Eric Gill's lettering and shows his influence on the author's work.
