This book contains excerpts from the narratives of four slaves. These narratives describe the cruelty faced by all slaves. It also expresses the great courage slaves exhibited in their endeavors not only to live, but to gain freedom. This book is a great way for students to view slavery from the perspective of a slave.

wonderful book would reccommend it to any one whos interested in history and how slavery were opperated in those time .
it also got my interest on how it had smiliar events that could relate to the holocaust

While this can be a tough topic to learn about and hard to teach to children this book does a great job without being too graphic. The author carefully picked excerpts which were powerful yet digestible by children. I highly recommend this for any classroom and every home.

Really really great book! Quick, powerful read. This book walks through four people's stories of slavery and freedom. I wish I could have met each person. I feel deeply proud of each of them.
