July 11, 2023I really want to travel to the Czech Republic and this book made me even more fascinated by it. Fascinating history and a very cool place. I like the tradition of mushroom hunting.

My wife Kristy and I read this book together. We wanted to find out some things about Prague and the Czech Republic since we have signed up for a tour there in late June.. We are looking forward to it. It helped us learn about Prague's history as one of the leading cities for many years in central Europe. Prague suffered from the ambitions of larger, more powerful countries surrounding it like Germany during World War II and then the Soviet Union after that then becoming free about 1990. The Holy Roman Empire also controlled it a lot.
It is a beautiful area and has the quaint architecture of older times in Europe. We learned that Christianity is diminishing there like in the States. We were saddened by that.
We read about some of their food. We made one Czech dish: zemlovka. It was good and easy to make. It uses French bread dipped in egg, apple slices, and raisins.
It was fun to read it together on our couch taking turns with the reading.
