Tabitha’s mother is dying, and her father was supposed to do something about it. Instead, he abandoned their family to fend for themselves as lower-class Privileged. When Tabitha discovers that her father is a fugitive from an elite institute for the upper Provision class, she makes it her mission to get there. Upon arrival, however, she’s recruited to assist in his capture. Unsure of his guilt, Tabitha is caught between revenge and rescue. As the dark truths of their picture-perfect institute come to light, Tabitha is faced with a to cling to her three-year grudge, or to risk it all for those she vowed she would never love.

About the author

Rebecca Loomis is a photographer and graphic designer from Austin, Texas. During college, she studied under screenwriter Christopher Riley, who is considered “The most authoritative figure for the official screenplay format of Hollywood,” according to IMDb. Switching gears from entertainment media to mass communications, Rebecca graduated summa cum laude from Benedictine College. She then spent three years doing stateside missionary work, counseling college students for the nonprofit Saint Paul’s Outreach, after which she dabbled in marketing at BBG&G Advertising. Rebecca has won multiple awards for her poetry, published articles in various media outlets, and teaches online classes through Skillshare.com.

I had the pleasure of meeting author Rebecca Loomis in person, and received a copy of her book. A Whitewashed Tomb kept me on the edge of my seat. I was perpetually curious where Tabitha's journey would take her and how the plot would unravel. The characters were dynamic and interesting. I am excited for the sequel! The story is just getting started in my opinion.

I haven't read anything in the dystopian genre in a while, so I really enjoyed this!
The omniscient point of view was great at building the tension, and made this book a real page-turner. The theme of forgiveness was my favorite part of the book, and allowed for good reflection.

This book is amazing!
It's a dystopian novel set in a time when there is no more war and everyone is provided for: a dreamworld that many would say we should be working toward. A Whitewashed Tomb does an excellent job, however, of flushing out the trade-offs inherent in this world of the proverbial "free lunch."
But this is not a political novel. It is a fast-paced, extremely clever drama centered around Tabitha Clay, a young woman who suffers with a dying mother and an absent father; who yearns to fix things, but makes mistakes; who is imperfect and flawed, impulsive and emotional. In other words, she is human. Once I began the story, I could not put it down. The intensity builds incessantly to an emotional catharsis rivaling a classic operatic climax in which the reader comes to experience the essence of human weakness, love, strength, and forgiveness.
I can't wait for the sequel!
