Hollister returns from war with his face badly disfigured so that former friends no longer recognize him. His wife is gone, remarried. All his belongings are also gone. He's very depressed. He had been officially declared dead in World War 1. He self-isolates in the forest, hoping to overcome his depression. But, it turns out, guess who lives nearby?
