An enjoyable read from one of my favourite eras of man utd football. I deliberated giving this 4 marks out of 5 though ultimately plumped for 3 mainly due to there being an over reliance on describing most matches during the seasons Tommy managed and having a lower amount of quips and anecdotes than I’d hoped. The book is extremely well written but feels a little too autobiographically formulaic for long periods. How much of this is ghost written or how much is simply directed is unclear. Certainly Tommy’s witty personality doesnt come through enough. When it does I found myself having a great chuckle but those times are too infrequent. It’s still a thorough snapshot of The Doc’s career and, above criticisms notwithstanding, a book I can recommend.
An entertaining biography of one of the most colourful characters in Football. Tommy Docherty, love him or hate him was one of the most colourful and entertaining men in Football. A frank, direct man that was never short of an entertaining anecdote and would surely not survive in Football at this time with all the governing bodies.
