This compelling family saga tells of three generations of a Tutsi family. It begins with the arranged marriage of Stella to an older man of the same tribe whom she has never met. She is prematurely withdrawn from school and married off despite her protests. With succeeding generations, however, the order of things changes and old tenets based on gender, traditions and sectarianism, are replaced with new concepts which seek to do away with all forms of discrimination.
This book was a gift that my boyfriend brought for me from a restaurant in Uganda, so I was bound to like it and cherish it regardless. I did not expect, however, how crazy the story would be from start to finish. If you can get your hands on a copy, it certainly is a one of a kind book. There is not a single page that is boring.
