Though it is the only book of African American literary criticism I've read, I found Gabbin's efforts with this book thorough in covering a wide variety of African American poetry. I hope there's a second volume to come. There's definitely a big need for books of African American critique. Many aren't published again because the readership is so small, but this is a great contribution to literature on the whole.
