Commander Ian Stewart has had his eye on Adanna Ingles for over a year. Unfortunately, she is enlisted and works for him. Biding his time, Ian vows the moment she checks out of his division and off of their ship, she would be his.
Adanna Ingles has no idea she has a secret admirer. She plans on moving far away from San Diego the moment she is discharged and start a new life in Tacoma, Washington. Little does she know what waits for her at the end of the pier.
Shara is- well let's just say touched. Born a Marine brat, Shara is a Navy Veteran with a pathological love for men in uniform, chocolate, and heroes that are maybe a touch psychotic. With over seventy-five books in her backlog, Shara has no intention of slowing down any time soon. She's definitely not safe for work, or the kids, or- you know what? She's just not safe.
This story really had me holding my breath with anticipation. It was one of the first interracial ebooks I downloaded, and I was not disappointed in the least. The storyline caught my attention right away. I love heroes who go after they want, the heroine. Ian patiently waited for Adanna to finish up her tour of duty in the Navy and become a free agent, so he could have her. The Navy takes fraternization very seriously, and as such, having an affair with a subordinate is a no-no. So when Adanna was no longer a subordinate, he could pursue years of pent-up feelings for her. It was really hot how into Adanna he was. He wasn't just lusting after her, he loved her. Ian observed her very carefully, learning what was important to her and what made her happy. I liked how his viewpoint is very prominent and you know how intricate his plans are involving Adanna. The viewpoint helps to make it clear he's not a crazy stalker or that he has honest intentions. He wants a life with her.
Adanna was really not expecting Ian to be into her. She saw him and definitely liked what she saw but that was that. Dating a superior wasn't even an option. When he offers her a ride home (to his home, we find out soon) and pretty much states his intentions, she is floored and of course, definitely intrigued. There's the fact that he's White and she's Black, not to mention an officer and she's enlisted. Also she didn't really think he noticed her outside of her performance on the ship, since she's all business and keeps a low profile. He always treated her with respect and didn't treat her poorly as some officers might do to an enlisted woman. But he has definitely has his eye on her. I guess you might consider him a bit stalkerific (but I love that in a hero, call me weird) Another thing I liked is that Ian is a redhead. I have a secret fondness for red-headed men, so that was a nice surprise. This was my first story by Azod, and it definitely made me want to pick up more by her.
Chain of Command is a great combination of romance and heated sensuality. I wouldn't like it if the romance was there. And it definitely is. Although Ian is very forthright in his attentions, it doesn't feel coercive. He's very gentle and persuasive with Alanna, beautifully so. You have to read it to see how things unfold, but I really liked the way this story progresses and concludes. It's very short, my only regret.
This was fun. Not quite insta-love because the feelings had obviously been there a while but things went from 0 to 1000 when she got out, lol.
Adanna was a strong, great at her job and pretty funny. Ian was a hot stalker. Seriously, him realizing that taking her to his place with no warning might seem crazy was hilarious.
I loved how obsessed he was. The epilogue was cute.
This is a review of the first two stories of the Anchors Away Series.
Red Skies At Night (Anchors Away #1) 3 Stars This story starts out with one of the most embarrassing situations a person could face: masturbating and calling out the person's name who catches you. The saving grace is that the person watching has a thing for the person masturbating. And sexual situations start from there. I enjoyed this story and it hooked me to read the rest of the series. (I have, just haven't reviewed them.) There is a lot of technical descriptions of working on engines and don't let that put you off. The author really seems to know what she is describing. I really liked the sex scenes. I actually wanted more. I wanted to know more of what they were doing in his office before the week stay at the resort. The injector room scene was hot. The author shows why Brett would fall for Teanne. She does not want to take advantage of their relationship to get out of work. I liked both of these characters. The ending was great with the Chief Warrant Office knowing they were together. Very enjoyable story.
Chain of Command (Anchors Away #2) 2.5 Stars This is a story proving that all stalkers are not bad stalkers, but still a little frightening none-the-less. Ian wants Adanna. He has been stalking her during her last cruise. I thought it was so funny how she played strong until she was taken to his new, empty home. She just knew he was going to kill her. He knew what she was thinking and did not say anything for a long time to keep her off balance. When he frowns in chapter 2, she thinks he is mad. I assumed he was fighting for control. He wants to comfort her, but he wants to surprise her more. While she was upset that he just assumes he thinks he is going to get lucky, she quickly changes her mind when he rattles off all that he knows about her. His Navy Seal training comes in handy since he stalks her and she is not aware he was paying any attention to her. He also treated her like a mission. I liked the line at location 320, "How was it possible to be turned on and scared shitless at the same time? Ian is also off balance because he wants her so much, but is not sure she will stay. His fear of her not saying yes to moving in with him is shown at location 586 with the sentence, "After several seconds of silence, his idiot mouth began the verbal diarrhea." I would have rated this story with more stars, but there are numerous typos. I also felt the story was not balanced Ian's background missing. The reader is informed of Adanna's and why she wound up in the Navy, but not why Ian became a Seal or other important information.
