Pieces from the Mosaic

Rate this book
Magic is real if you know where to look for it. An average man inherits a fragment of an ancient mosaic that allows him to walk through walls. A thief discovers the secret behind the legendary King Midas' touch. A unique gift causes a homesteading family to be plagued by faeries. An orphan sent to live with his grandfather learns that he's more than an ordinary boy. This twelve-story collection follows individuals whose lives are linked to an ancient, magical mosaic. Pieces from The Mosaic is a companion to the novel, The Mosaic, fitting either as an introduction to the series or as a deeper look after the fact.

Wonderful companion to The Mosaic - these short stories add clarity and depth the the novel, and really should be read after it. There is such a variety in the stories that it keeps readers guessing what the next one will bring. If you liked the novel, you'll really enjoy this collection, and if you happen to find this before reading the novel, you'll find yourself drawn immediately to discover more within the original story. Magic touches all of the characters' lives in some way as they are touched by The Mosaic, and just like a butterfly effect, something someone doesn't even know about can make a profound change in his or her life.

Small Pieces of the Bigger Picture.

“It is calling to us. The Mosaic is drawing its children home.”

A selection of short stories all set in the world first encountered in the YA urban fantasy book Mosaic. The stories are all well written, but most benefit from the background of having read the novel first. They range from quite sweet, short, insights like 'The Forgotten Garden' to something more horrific as in 'Mirror, Mirror'.

If you enjoyed the original book, these short stories will add some depth and breadth to that.

“Pieces From The Mosaic” is a wonderful little companion to its older sister, “The Mosaic.”
It adds a depth of scope to a journey that has enhanced, marred, changed and connected the lives of so many individuals and families over the centuries … and not always with a happy ending.
Sometimes amusing, often sad, constantly thought-provoking, but at all times entertaining, the ancillary stories of “Pieces From The Mosaic” are not only a valued supplement to the bigger picture, but they add a defining polish, allowing us to get a clearer, deeper understanding of a different world hiding all around us in plain sight.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, and look forward to what the tiles will bring us next.

A well-written collection of short stories that immerse the reader deeper into the fantasy realm that Keaton created in 'The Mosaic.'

This perfect little companion piece is great for fueling fans of the original book. Characters and situations you had questions about in the first book are explained or given back-stories, new characters whose lives were affected by the magic are polished and fit into the overall world seamlessly. Each story unfolds a different idea with usually a heart-wrenching emotion attached to it.

This collection will either entice a reader to read 'The Mosaic' or enhance the story that was loved from before.

For the most part, I enjoyed this collection of stories. The idea behind the Mosaic is interesting enough to make me purchase the next book, but there are times I wonder if the author was trying to hard to keep the stories short. At times the author would skim through major events and time frames by telling the reader what happened. Some of the stories just ended with an info dump of what happened in the years following a major event in the character's life. In fact, some of the short stories could probably be stretched into full length novels to give more richness to the characters lives.

This book makes a wonderful companion to The Mosaic. I loved how the stories brought me through space and time to see the impact of the mosaic on such a variety of lives. It was so interesting to see how people could have no idea of the true meaning and purpose of the mosaic while also having their lives changed by it. Loved it!
