This is an emotional rollercoaster second-chance romance packed with drama - and a lovely, very gifted, child. It is a story where two people who, as children, used to support each other until something happened to drive them apart . . . . Now he’s returning to his home town of Marrell to work in the Hospital there, the hospital that is owned by her father. When the two meet up again, Leanne can’t understand why Caleb is so wary of her, yet so friendly with everyone else. She can’t remember what she has ever done to deserve his reluctance to trust her in any way. Can they overcome the past to move on to a future together?

This is an enthralling, moving story. It has well developed characters and explores reactions to trauma as well as the problems encountered by gifted children and their parents. It has elements of mystery and suspense as well as a heart warming romance, a lovely read which I have no hesitation in recommending to anyone who, like me, enjoys this genre!

I requested and received a copy of this novel, via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

Reunited With Her Army Doc (Mills & Boon Medical) (Sinclair Hospital Surgeons, Book 1) by Dianne Drake.

Caleb Carsten was an army medic before he was injured on duty. He is now a civilian doctor and a single dad to a gifted son, Matthew. There is a special school back in Caleb's hometown which caters to gifted children. If Matthew can be placed in that school then Caleb will stay and take on a job. Unfortunately, the job is running the town medical centre which is owned by a woman who made his life hell during his teen years.

Leanne Sinclair is that woman. She has a life in the city, but she has returned home in order to find somebody to run the medical centre that her father has passed on to her in order to retire. When she realises that Caleb is back in town too she only has good memories of growing up with him, at least up until high school, and then she can't remember anything about him. She figures they must have drifted apart, but for the life of her, she doesn't understand why. She is happy that he might be taking the job she has to offer and she looks forward to catching up with him and old times.

When Leanne first meets up with Caleb again she can't understand why he is so cool with her, bordering on mean. He can't believe that she doesn't seem at all guilty about what happened to him because of her. They need to spend time together, the more time they spend together, the more they feel attracted to each other. Leanne still can't understand why she feels Caleb is angry at her sometimes, and Caleb hates himself for falling for Leanne when she was such a horrible part of his life and doesn't even seem to care about it.

This book had a wonderful plot, and I enjoyed reading about Matthew and his gifts. Leanne and Caleb were a believable couple right up until we find out what Leanne did to Caleb. I cannot believe that Caleb would give Leanne the time of day after what happened. Yes take her job, but stay right away from her. He is obviously a much more forgiving person than me that's all I can say. On the whole, I did like the story, but it was quite dark in places, and not a feel-good story that I normally associate with Mills and Boon books.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers' copy of this book.

When Caleb returns to his home town to work in the local hospital. He has also moved to help his son who is a talented pianist, as well as an academic genius. What he doesn’t know is that Leanne (a former girlfriend), whose father is the lead Dr in the hospital, is going to be taking over from her father. She doesn’t want to run the hospital as she has a job in the city where she is.
Leanne has hurt Caleb in the past and he is very wary of her. She is wanting to be friends but is surprised and upset when he is not reciprocating as she would expect. As they get to know each other as adults they discover that there is still a spark between them, but can they get over what happened when they were children and more especially can Caleb learn to trust Leanne again.
This is a really good read, which does not shy away from subjects such as isolation and bullying.
I would recommend this book and would definitely read more books by this author.

Yet, the more time Leanne spends with Caleb and his very gifted son, the more she finds herself ready to change the plans she had for her future.
