Mary Pope Osborne is an American author of children's books and audiobook narrator. She is best known as the author of the Magic Tree House series, which as of 2017 sold more than 134 million copies worldwide. Both the series and Osborne have won awards, including for Osborne's charitable efforts at promoting children's literacy. One of four children, Osborne moved around in her childhood before attending the University of North Carolina. Following college, Osborne traveled before moving to New York City. She somewhat spontaneously began to write, and her first book was published in 1982. She went on to write a variety of other children's and young adult books before starting the Magic Tree House series in 1992. Osborne's sister Natalie Pope Boyce has written several compendium books to the Magic Tree House series, sometimes with Osborne's husband Will Osborne.
My son has finished the Magic Tree House series and now is on to the Merlin Missions. He loves these books. They are basically historic fantasies where Jack and Annie travel back in history on Missions for Merlin the Wizard in their Magic Treehouse.
Of course there is no bigger snake then a Anaconda that lives in South America. But other than that I rate this five stars and I made it my favorite Merlin Mishion.
Read these with my boys who lived the magic tree house series. If those represent the non fiction side of the tree house universe the Merlin’s missions fully embrace the fantasy side. In these first 4 Jack and Annie save Camelot, save a castle from the Raven King, save a sword from a sea serpent and help the Ice Wizard find his missing eye. The missions are a little longer and fun reads. Good intro to fantasy but not my cup of tea.
