Only the risen dead can save the living! It was supposed to be just another case for Forensics Detective Lowie Mortem. Nothing could be further from the truth. While investigating a particular case, Mortem is brutally, savagely, and inexplicably murdered. However, as fate would have it, he's granted a new lease on life and risen from the dead by a mysterious warlock. Not only was he returned to the world of the living spiritually intact, but he bore a vast array of otherworldly powers. Abilities he uses to re-open cold cases that may or may not harbor a connection to the one specific case that resulted in his untimely demise. Who's behind all those mysterious deaths? He must find out. During his journey, Lowie meets a woman named Angelique Coffin. An immortal who walked the earth for hundreds of years. Daughter of dark creatures and a high-ranking soldier to a religious clandestine crusaders' order. Through her, Lowie learns that a greater existential threat looms. One that could condemn the entire world to total damnation! Will they overcome the sinister evil that threatens the world as we know it?

This book is a mix of detective fiction and fantasy and horror elements. It's exciting, engrossing, and something that will have readers on the tip of their seats.

So the story starts with the protagonist Forensics Detective Lowie Mortem was supposed to be working on the case, which eventually led to his brutal assassination. He is, however, given a new lease on life, a strange warlock wanted to repay his debt and raised him from the dead. With his return, he also possessed some supernatural abilities. He uses his abilities to re-open cases that might have some with his murder. During his journey, Lowie meets a woman named Angelique Coffin, a very interesting character with a very interesting story of birth and life. Through her, Lowie learns that there is a greater threat to the world and as things start to unravel he finds himself on a larger quest battling with otherworldly powers.
Even though it contains the same core concept of good vs. evil, the way it is wrapped up makes it a new and refreshing read. The cover very well evinces the supernatural power of the characters and thus revealing the theme of the book. The visuals incorporated are stunning, and the characters are admirable with in-depth backstories. There is humour and action also. The plot is intriguing, full of twists and turns, which would make the readers not put it down. The narrative and writing style is lucid for people to comprehend.Thrill, suspense, elements of horror and fantasy is what this book authors to readers. Readers of fantasy and detective novellas will definitely enjoy this.

Lowie Mortem: Chronicles of a Dead Detective is an intriguing story penned down by the author J Rene Munz. In this story, a 35 years old forensic investigator Lowie Mortem arrived at a murder scene at Bentley Street in Metro City. There he was shot in the head with a gun and his body was found dismembered.
When Lowie was alive, once he has saved the life of grandson of a warlock Baba Abogán. Baba became indebted to Lowie from that moment and he promised him to repay his debt sometime in his life or death.
Old man raised Lowie from his grave. Lowie could feel great supernatural strength within himself. He is now a part of the world of living and the dead. Lowie starts to investigate on the cold cases where victims bodies were found dismembered in the same way in every case. He also started looking into the case of his own murder. Story became more interesting as the spirit of Baba gave few hints to Lowie. Grab a copy of this book and unveil yourself what gonna happen next.

Lowie Mortem is a investigating officer who like every other day goes on a crime scene to investigate it and collect evidences but he gets murdered there and then the real story begins. Lowie Mortem after he is buried is revived by a very mysterious person whome he had helped earlier. But this time when he comes back to life he comes with some supernatural powers now his motive is to find his killer and get himself and other victims justice.
The story starts to unfold and we realize that enemies of our hero are not some ordinary people but devils and demons, the story gradually moves from a simple murder mystery to a fantastic war between good and evil, secrets from ancient times and magic. How does Lowie Mortem fights this war? Can he defeat them? The story covers all these questions.

Intriguing, captivating, and full of mystery and horror are only a few words I can choose to describe this excellent narrative by award-winning author J. Rene Munz. The book is composed of marvelous storytelling accompanied by gorgeous illustrations that add elements to the story. The book showcases driven and enigmatic characters, like the protagonist, Detective Mortem, and Angelique Coffin. A must-read for lovers of detective and horror genres.

Una mirada diferente e interesante, y en cierta manera refrescante de zombies y vampiros. Fantasía fundida con historia de manera exquisita. Una novela con personajes y conflicto interesantes.
Opción personal:
Me hubiera gustado que se profundizará más en el desenvolvimiento de los personajes; el porqué de sus acciones en ciertos momentos y el crecimiento emocional hacia otros personajes. Sé que hay un segundo libro, pero éste tiene tanto misterio que se puede ensanchar la narrativa sin tener que revelar todo en su primer libro(si esa era la meta del escritor). Hay varios cabos que quedan en el aire que espero sean "amarrados" en el segundo libro.

It was interesting I liked the characters and believe they have a lot of potential. The story was pretty good, but a bit too short.
