Elkheart: A Personal Tribute to Wapiti and Their World

Rate this book
In Elkheart, critically acclaimed essayist and naturalist David Petersen presents a deeply personal, intimately informed, and (by his own admission) "somewhat eccentric" portrait of the North american elk, or wapiti, and its wild and wooly world.

This book has some mildly interesting observations about elk behavior, biology, and natural history. However, Petersen permeates his chapters with a bitterness and hatred for other hunters, non-hunters, and, well, himself. I could very much do without his ignorant sermonizing on religion (he considers himself a "born again animist"), history, and bear hunting. Look elsewhere, really, if you want to read a book about elk.
