My Girlfriend's Perfect Ex-Boyfriend

Rate this book
A fast paced, refreshing take on modern relationships.

Meet Adrian Turner; Mountaineer, Secret Agent, Fireman... Ade would dearly like to be any of these things, though he'd trade them all to win the heart of Paige, who despite being Ade's girlfriend for the past eighteen months, still seems to have one foot out of the door, and hasn't quite committed to leaving a toothbrush in the bathroom.

Of course, it doesn't help that she's working with her ex-boyfriend, Sebastian. A man who in almost every way imaginable is better, taller, wealthier, hairier, and infinitely more successful than Ade.

Is Paige in love with Sebastian? Of course not! Why then would she suggest they get away for a few days? Some place romantic...

But when Adrian finds himself in Slovenia - with Sebastian in the room down the hall - he realises there's serious possibility that he's in danger of losing his job, his mind, and the woman he loves...

Appealing to fans of Matt Dunn, Nick Hornby and Nick Spalding - and movies such as 'Man Up' and 'Notting Hill' - comes this hilarious romp about love, and the things people do to keep it from getting away.

Peter Jones started professional life as a particularly rubbish graphic designer, followed by a stint as a mediocre petrol pump attendant. After that he got embroiled in the murky world of credit card banking. Fun times.

Nowadays, Peter spends his days writing, or talking about writing.

He’s written three novels; a Rom-Com (Romantic Comedy), A Crim-Com (Crime Comedy), and a Rom-Com-Ding-Dong (A sort-of Romantic-ish Comedy, with attitude). He’s currently working on his fourth novel, which - if it’s a musical - he’ll no doubt describe as a Rom-Com-Sing-Song. (Spoiler: It isn’t).

He is also the author of three and a half popular self-help books on the subjects of happiness, staying slim and dating. If you’re overweight, lonely, or unhappy – he’s your guy.

Peter doesn’t own a large departmental store and probably isn’t the same guy you’ve seen on the TV show Dragons’ Den.

5☆ Fresh Exciting Feel Good Rom Com! Loved It!

My Girlfriend's Perfect Ex-boyfriend is a book about Love, Relationships, Jealousy and Secrets and Lies told by the Males point of view!

When Adrian meets Paige at a boring conference, Paige seduces Adrian into a one night stand, ditching the conference about using interactive white boards in schools.
Adrian needed to be there as he is a teacher and Head of the IT department.
But he just can't resist Paige, shes confident and Sexy he gives in.

Who would of thought that Adrian and Paige would still be together now. They are very different and wanting a different path in life. Although they do say opposites attract!

But unfortunately for them there is three people in their relationship and the other person is Paige's 'Perfect Ex- Boyfriend' Sebastian!
He comes across as perfectly arrogant!

Adrian is very very jealous of Sebastian and he just can't let go of the fact Sebastian is in their life no matter what...as he works with Paige!

I felt so sorry for Adrian no matter what he tried to do he was so consumed by jealousy and rage things just keep going disastrously wrong.
Can Adrian ever trust Paige or will his jealousy push Paige straight into the arms of her 'Perfect Ex' ?

For me what I loved most about this book was the fresh twist of the story being told by a males point of view!
What it feels like for a man experiencing a Girlfriend's Ex instead of it being the other way round!
How you expect the emotions to be different but instead they are heightened!
Normally with Rom Com's you get the story told by the women and the jealousy/emotions she feels.
I loved it!!! And want to applaud Peter for challenging the 'Norm' !

I adored reading My Girlfriend's Perfect Ex-boyfriend, It really is the Perfect easy to read Rom Com, that had me laughing out loud, cringing at times, melting my heart, to the exciting little twists.

It really is the Perfect mix! Love, Romance, Emotion, humour, secrets and lies, exciting little twists, relatable characters that you could really get behind, one minute you felt sorry for the Characters next you was covering your eyes thinking why on earth did you do that for!

Peter has done a fantastic job at making the Characters believable. You had the hero, the Damsel so to speak and the Villan. But will there be a happy ever after???
I guess you will just have to read it to find out!
You wont be disappointed!

No for the all important question...... would I recommend this book???
...... without a doubt.... 100%....YES!!!

This really is a fresh new take on Rom Com.
Perfect for readers who love Rom Com's, Chick Lit, Romance, Humour.

I received this book from the Publisher in exchange for a honest and fair review in which I voluntarily reviewed.

My Girlfriend’s Perfect Ex-Boyfriend is a romantic comedy written by a man, from a male perspective, which is quite a rarity. It is usually women who are shrouded in self-doubt, eaten away by reckless jealousy and constantly paranoid when it comes to romance. This book demonstrates perfectly that men suffer huge insecurities too,

Adrian Turner is his own worst enemy, he spends every waking hour wondering why his girlfriend Paige is with him and not her dashing ex-boyfriend Sebastian. The fact that Sebastian is tall, hairy, built his own house and keeps alpacas sends Adrian into a whirlwind of self-doubt and paranoia, especially as Adrian himself struggles to assemble an Ikea bedside table!

The story takes us to a wedding in Slovenia where Adrian meets his demon head on. How will he cope? Does Adrian rise to the occasion or remain defeated by the notorious ex-boyfriend?

I liked Adrian and wanted things to turn out right for him. I imagined him as a John Cleese type character, fumbling and awkward but hilariously funny too.

An unlikely friendship develops between Adrian and one of his pupils called Gary who appears to be seeking a father figure. The boy is extremely bright, unashamedly nosey but undoubtedly lonely. The relationship which evolves is truly endearing.

A great read for women who should be aware that it is not only the female species who suffer from crippling self-doubt. Peter Jones portrayal of Adrian Turner is not only extremely amusing but insightful, compassionate and thought-provoking.

I was sent the book to read in exchange for an honest review.

As soon as I saw the blurb for this book I knew that I wanted to read a copy - well I wasn't disappointed, I thought that the book was great!!  The characters are great and the way that they work together within the storyline is absolutely spot on - my only regret with this book is that I didn't read it sooner - most definitely 5 stars from me!!!

I absolutely loved the way that the story was told from the male point of view (such a nice change!) and it genuinely had me laughing at times, it really is so well written, I really do recommend it - in fact all lovers of romantic comedy need to grab a copy of this book!!

5 Stars for this funny, laugh out loud story about love and commitment! Adrian is a normal, run of the mill schoolteacher living a normal, if somewhat dull life until he meets Paige at a business gala. She is vibrant, beautiful, and spontaneous. She asks him to leave with her, and for once he throws caution to the wind and agrees. What he expects to be a one-night stand turns into something more. One night turns into eighteen months, but when Ade learns the truth about her breakup with ex, Sebastian, he becomes suspicious and wonders why Paige treats their home as just a temporary stop. Is she regretting her decision to be with him? Thus, begins a hilarious journey for Ade and Paige!

I loved that this was told entirely from Ade’s POV. We get a peek inside a male’s mind regarding his relationship. OMG, his dreams were hilarious!!!! I was a fan of Ade’s from the very beginning, but I wasn’t a huge fan of Paige’s in the beginning. I thought she took advantage of Ade. As the story progressed, I came to like her when I realized what motivated her. This wasn’t just a fun rom com, but it was also a journey of self-discovery. Ade went from someone who had no confidence to someone who became very self-assured. After comparing himself to Sebastian, Paige’s ex, he realizes after spending time with him, that Sebastian isn’t nearly as perfect as he thought!

This book was not only entertaining and funny, it was also very well-written! I highly recommend if you are in the mood for a different and refreshing romantic comedy!!!

very silly and funny = 3.5 stars rounded up because I laughed a lot :)

This is a completely silly romantic comedy told from the perspective of Adrian. He is a mild mannered IT teacher who is just a teensy bit insecure about his relationship with his girlfriend Paige and a whole lot jealous of her ex, Sebastian. Over the 18 months they have been dating this has caused a number of arguments between them with Paige storming off and/or pointing out she is with Adrian not "that jerk" Sebastian. As much as Adrian tries to let it go it is hard when she is still working with Sebastian and the faulty interactive whiteboards that Adrian uses at his school are manufactured by Sebastian. He simply can not escape the man. He is even plagued by the man in his daydreams and nightmares. The book follows hapless Adrian's zany interactions with Sebastian and a host of other characters from his first night with Paige until he is able to extricate himself from all the mental torment that is Sebastian, though some of it is told in flashbacks.

My favourite character after Adrian was Gary, one of his very bright students. Gary keeps getting detention on purpose. Eventually Adrian figures this out and ends up spending some extra time with him. I would have liked more Gary but Adrian does limit their interactions, although not as much as he should, because he realises there are boundaries that ought to be kept.

Another wonderful character is Nikita. She is the new girlfriend of Sebastian and she takes a shine to Adrian. She sees what a decent human being he is. Paige dislikes her a lot which of course makes Adrian feel insecure.

Given this is from Adrian's perspective it is expected that we won't like Sebastian. But really he was just a bit too awful. I would have preferred him to have some redeeming qualities. And I would have expected to like Paige but I didn't much and neither did Nikita. However I did love Adrian defending her to Nikita. I felt that was quite real. That we as outsiders often don't see the nice characteristics of a person and should not judge someone else for being in love with them.

I am okay with not liking characters and even for characters to do immoral things. But I will usually get bothered if I think the author whitewashes the immoral act. And I think that sort of occurred here. For me Paige lacked morals in that she told some pretty serious lies. . I thought they were whitewashed because Adrian is barely bothered by them and that did not seem to match his character. Still that did not ruin the book for me and I truly laughed a lot so I hope to read another book by this author.

Third book I've read by the talented Peter Jones and third book I have thoroughly enjoyed.

I do love a rom-com written from a male POV and with a male protagonist, and this is definitely a good example of those, written with the authors trademark quirkiness and wackiness.

For nothing is straightforward between Adrian and Paige, and it seems as though there is a third person in their relationship, her ex-boyfriend Sebastian who according to Adrian is perfect.

Adrian is rather insecure in his relationship and perceives himself to be second best to the ex-boyfriend, and its through his insecurities that some of the early great moments occur.

However it takes for a holiday to Slovenia for everything to become rather crazy in a good way and the story is told at a fast pace that just as you are comprehending one set of facts a new curveball comes in to add a new layer to the intrigue.

I also loved the descriptions of Slovenia, the beauty of the area they were staying in, and my mouth was watering at what sounds like one of the best hotel breakfast spreads I've ever seen. Added to the spa facilities, and lets just say I would love to stay there myself.

I found this to be a lovely book to read in my garden on hot day in May, where I was able to relax into the story and had I needed to would have been able to laugh out loud without overlookers - as this is a funny book.

I loved that there are small nods to the authors previous books with a couple of the characters, which made me smile, as I do like seeing recurring characters even in minor roles.

Although not my favourite book from Mr Jones, it is still a great read and will give you a good idea of just what this author is about.

Thank you to Peter Jones for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Hilarious, from the title to the wonderful character that is Adrian Turner. I must admit, I didn't like Paige in the beginning. I felt like she let Ade spin out of control a little, even though I must admit he was a little neurotic. Which is so refreshing to read, since men in books are normally so self assured - to have a hot mess like Ade is awesome! The relationship between him and his student is very funny too, and heartwarming in many places. We have all opened the x-files from time to time, and this is a refreshing take. Reading about a man feeling jealous and insecure was a nice change, and made me realise that perhaps it's not just us women that go through these emotions!

Definitely worth a read. Thoroughly enjoyed being in his world.

I could sympathise with Adrian - too much like my ex-husband's perfect ex-wife (that's why he's now ex). I don't normally like rom-coms but I thoroughly enjoyed this one

Delightful rom-com from the clever pen of Peter Jones. There's a deeper message in his characters that mirrors real people. I loved this book.
