A revision of a five-year research project begun in 1989 at the University of Cape Town. The dramatic developments, which began soon after the research project, and which led to South Africa's first non-racial elections in April 1994, caused fundamental changes in the political landscape. Yet a right-wing core of up to 2 million Afrikaners and other whites cling to a racist nationalism for security in a racially integrated society. The author says this core presents a serious threat both to the post-apartheid transitional process and to any democratically elected government in the new South Africa. Interesting book but it's like a super long essay and was just not captivating enough to leave a lasting impression. It's definitely been an eye opener in understanding the Afrikaaner right wing movement though. Definitely appreciative of the cultural education
