The Italian sculptor Vincenzo de’ Rossi (1525-1587), who made the famous Fatiche d’Ercole housed at Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, realized his Laochoon inspired by the ancient sculptural group preserved in the Vatican, and also by the copy made by his master Baccio Bandinelli around 1520. This publication frames De’ Rossi’s Laochoon from the historical and artistic point of view, offering a wide range of iconographic documentation and extensive bibliography.
