おしえて! ギャル子ちゃん [Oshiete! Gyaruko-chan] #5
Please Tell Me! Galko-chan Vol. 5
The hilarious bestselling manga series published for the time in North America—in full-color! Galko-chan always speaks her mind, which may not be the wisest decision in all cases, but it’s never short of entertaining! Follow the exuberant and unbelievably busty high schooler as she traverses the ups and downs of adolescence with spirit and verve, alongside her best friends–the anti-social loner, Otako, and the unpredictably honest Ojou.

I've fallen in love with this manga. NOT FOR KIDS ANYMORE!
While the 1st two volumes started out tame, & focused on questions & answers that every preteen/young teen girl wonders about, the 3rd volume started to wander into directions aimed at older audiences. By the 4th volume, it had gotten to the point I wouldn't suggest it be given to under age 16. Now, this volume, DEFINITELY adults ONLY. A lot of silly nonsense, but very adult humor & a lot of sexual things like costumes, fetishes, bondage, auto-eroticism, porn, S&M, promiscuity, losing virginity, & more. Looking at volume 1 next to volume 5, it's like they're 2 completely different series, which just happen to contain similar looking characters. Now, having said that, there are some genuinely funny moments here, I LOL'd a number of times. It's focused now on telling a story, not the original Q&A format. I'm curious to see where things go with the 2 love birds, so I'll likely get volume 6, if it is published. Art, very unique & very good. Dialogue, very adult, but excellent. Characters, believable, likeable, & relatable in some cases.

I really enjoyed the latest instalment in the series which was packed again with childish humour, nervous romance and absolutely beautiful (if not always quite safe for work) art. This book delved much more into side characters and set up some developments in their relationships friendly and otherwise which was very fun to see though I would have liked more Galko-centric storylines as she is such a lovable and endearing protagonist. Another disappointment, though a very small one, is that I didn't enjoy the cover illustration as much as I normally do. The proportions on the close up face look a little off to me, but I'm not an artist and it's a pose we don't often see Galko in so I can't really be sure that's right. I just don't like it, I suppose. I loved the work in the book though, some of the most intricate stuff we've seen in the series with great colour work. Also, lots of blush-inducing illustrations of a variety of characters.

Such a shame this wasn’t continued past this volume because I think it was hitting its stride. The Galko’s sister storyline was tender and sweet and I’m curious about where it was going. I laughed out load more in this volume then previous ones and I really enjoy the movie chapters, very inventive. This manga series will be missed.

I will scream it from the mountain tops! Please Tell Me Galko-chan remains one of the most earnest manga ever penned. You cannot tell me otherwise. I love it dearly and I will continue to purchase it until the sun goes out.

Could have done without the porn star chapter, but I still enjoy the high school characters.
