This book has an excellent intro - I especially like the little "Be a Stitcher" box on page 9 talking about how sewing was a necessary survival skill not too long ago and how many people today might not even know how to thread a needle! She then goes on to encourage all sewers to teach someone else to sew. I really like that sentiment.

Secondly, I really enjoyed all the info on tools and fabric she heaps on the reader in the first 6 pages. Good solid reference info.

She claims that anyone "with a few hours" can make the projects in the book. I, as a beginner sewer and mom of two little ones, beg to differ with that claim. Perhaps and intermediate or advanced sewer could, but not a beginner, IMO.

The photography was very nice. However, I was not a huge fan of a lot of the fabrics she uses in the projects nor the overlying Asian-esque feel to many of the fabrics and finished projects. It gives the whole book a "trapped in the 80s" feel to me even though it was published in 2004.

One special note/value about the book: has the most info on bias, bias tape, and making your own bias tape that I have seen in a sewing book. I especially liked Bob's Bias Tape Maker on page 121.
