I have an original paperback version from 1966. I don't exactly recall how I got it, either at a used bookstore in St. Louis or more likely from my beloved mother-in-law's books. Rereading it now, letting myself live with it for a while, letting it sink into me as much as I sunk into it, I'm truly grateful for this re-discovery of a man of such strong faith with such a critical and practical mind.

His popular style is never condescending but rather uplifting and always confident that reality is real even when talking seriously about myths and angels in our mist. Fortunately, his spirit lives on in many ways. Even before finishing "The Two-Edged Sword" I had already ordered and received "No Famine in the Land: Studies in Honor of John L. McKenzie" and found two other of his books at the local used bookstore.

His "The New Testament Without Illusion" is blowing me away! I feel like I'm going on a McKenzie streak for my next few books.

This is an oldie but a goodie. It is one of the best popular, non-academic books on interpretation of the Old Testament that I have ever read. John McKenzie is an academic but he knows how to give his subject to those who are not academic.
