It is 1929. Nineteen-year-old Anna lives a sheltered life in Petroleum City, Pennsylvania. Her joyful innocence endears her to everyone she meets.
Anna leaves this safe haven to join a convent in Kentucky intent on becoming a nun. But these cloistered nuns do not speak, and Anna soon realizes that their life cannot be hers. She embarks upon a life-affirming journey that takes her across the country to Seattle and then to the Galapagos Islands where a series of tragedies test her faith in God and herself.
Will Anna retain her sunny outlook? Or will she emerge from her chrysalis as a different person?
Anna is a very interesting story for several reasons. There is much to learn, it's well written, has good characters, history, family and love. I live 10 miles from Petroleum City (now called Oil City, Pennsylvania). I know the location of streets mentioned, where The Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary Church is and it is my understanding that the author is from Oil City. I recommend this book, you won't be sorry.
Anna is a beautiful story of a young girl trying to figure out her calling. The authors Catholic faith is throughout this book. Without saying too much, I laughed and cried. Gods plan is a mystery.
Looking forward to the next book to discover what’s next on Anna’s journey. Slow start with little character development; however, exciting quick read!
