Without warning, humanity is subjected to an unknown phenomenon. People's physical appearances begin changing and mutating based on their actions. No one knows how or why, except maybe the members of two ancient and warring secret societies. Stefan Stefanson is an average man just trying to live his life and make sense of a world where it's increasingly possible to know everything about someone just by looking at them. A chance encounter places him in the middle of a centuries old conflict as the conspiracy to control mankind enters its endgame...
This was great! So weird. So much imagination. It reminded me of one of those freewheeling novels from the early days of Bizarro. The focus is a little loose, but the punk rock energy of it more than makes up for that. Exciting. Unexpected. Just a wild good time.
This book doesn't make a lot of sense, which is both its strength and its weakness. It's surprisingly well written, but the author rushes to a conclusion. You could draw a lot of this out longer and have a longer book.
No spoilers: the ending made no sense at all. Frankly, not much of it made sense. And yet, it was fun to read. Every step of the way was unpredictable, weird, readable, off-putting, and enjoyable.
I only wish the author had given themselves more credit and enjoyed themselves more, sprawling their story out a bit.
I take a weird pride in being the first and only reviewer of this book.
I would read more by this author.
Note this review doesn't mention the plot at all for fear of ruining the show.
