This book reminds me of Walden by Thoreau. Walden is, by the way, a book everyone should read.
There was a point in this book which was about how self help books are not useful. Quite rich coming from a self help book. I thought this text was interesting in the cultural location of masculinity at the moment. It is the case that this is the sort of book which would appeal to the kind of person who would read a Jordan Peterson book, and if you are that kind of person, go ahead and read it.
There is something a bit old timey about the vision of masculinity portrayed here. Masculinities are such a hot cultural topic these days, and this book does nothing to add to it. It does side step everything and just provides some general advice for life that everyone should adhere to: fix your own broken things where possible, have an idea of what the better version of you will be, plan ahead.
I live a life where I have extremely limited time. This book provides advice in living deliberately.
Having said all that. Walden is still a great book and everyone should read this. This book: meh, it's alright. It's all based off Walden though.
