Bit of a hodge-podge of the highlights (and lowlights) of Australian television programming from its inception in 1956 (to coincide with the Melbourne Olympic Games) through to 2005.
But with lots of great photos to pour over, local program summaries and personality portraits, historical timelines, 'Logie' award winners and loads of trivia help make this an interesting and fun read for nostalgia buffs.
Notable programs featured include 'Number 96' / 'Prisoner' (known outside Australia as 'Cell Block H') / 'Skippy: the Bush Kangaroo' which was sold to more than 100 overseas markets / 'Neighbours' (a hit soap opera since 1985 which also introduced actors Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Guy Pearce to international audiences) / 'Mother and Son' / 'Homicide' / 'In Melbourne Tonight' / 'Power Without Glory' / 'The Sullivans' / 'Home and Away' / 'Blue Heelers' / long running investigative current affairs program 'Four Corners' (an institution of potent reporting since 1961) and revolutionary pop music show 'Countdown.'
Famous personalities: Paul Hogan, Denise Drysdale, Norman Gunston, Graham Kennedy, Bert Newton, Olivia Newton-John, Lisa McCune, producer Hector Crawford
308 large sized pages chock full of colorful photos, TV Week magazine covers, and set in a year by year format. For fans of Aussie television of yesteryear, a feast of enjoyable memories.
