Computing Love

Rate this book
Computing Love, a visionary novel inspired by A Course in Miracles, tells the story of a scientist, Kyle Williams, who is transformed by visitations and guidance from two spiritual mentors. They invade his dreams, his home and his life, then set him on a path he cannot understand, declaring life itself is an illusion. They send Kyle on a journey so incredible it forces him to question everything he ever thought he knew, including the very meaning of life and humanity's place in the universe. Kyle is building the world's first quantum super computer, intending it will solve problems—war, crime, hatreds, poverty—that have plagued human society for centuries. He understands the immense power a quantum computer can bestow upon its owners and fears the worst. In the wrong hands, bad actors can use such a machine to inflict irrevocable harm on humanity. He becomes obsessed with being not only the first to bring a quantum computer to life. He hatches a plan to build a machine so powerful it will outperform and dominate all others. And, most important, he insists his machine be used only for peaceful purposes that benefit all humanity. He and his team struggle against forces that want to condemn his work to the ash bin of science, even as Kyle strives to learn how he might “reboot” the mind of humanity and bring love into the world. Filled with romance, death and love in its many incarnations, Computing Love celebrates the creative imagination and the inconceivable power of love. Set in the 2030s, it brushes against the edges of science fiction while exploring spirituality and the deepest levels of the human mind. Like the timeless wisdom that inspired it, Computing Love illuminates our world of duality and shows that love is the only creative force in the universe.

Biography
Allan began his study of metaphysics and spirituality in the 1970s, then discovered A Course in Miracles in 2000. It became his guide to living and the inspiration for the stories he writes.

As a writer and editor in medical technology, then later, as a freelance writer, he authored more than 500 non-fiction articles, white papers, video scripts, manuals, brochures and other material that have been published in print and on the web.

In 2012 he turned his attention to fiction. Computing Love is his debut novel. Allan's provocative characters struggle to overcome perils brought on by the greatest threat of all…the dangerous predilections of fellow humans. However, his lead characters often use seemingly bizarre strategies that seem ill-suited in a world so filled with danger.

These “strategies” are the principles contained in the book known as A Course in Miracles. Ramsay's stories let readers discover the wisdom of the Course while his characters battle for their lives in the most unusual and unexpected ways.

Allan is a member of the Visionary Fiction Alliance. His upcoming second novel, Five Years Living Naked, explores the dilemma that having a body poses to Josh Oakley, a 20-something man struggling to survive the two forces that collide and command his life—sometimes pushing him toward fear and chaos, at other times transporting him toward joy and peace.

Allan lives in Port Saint Lucie, Florida with his wife Becky, an artist and writer.

How is it possible in this world to esteem the power of Love when it has been so denigrated? It seems that we have become jaded toward believing in the possibility of light and love existing in this world of darkness. It’s as if we are just biding our time, trying to survive until we make it through to the end, hopefully unscathed.

Yet this need not be! We have a “Curriculum” to use that Allan Ramsay so expertly mentions early on in his book, Computing Love, which he then exquisitely weaves within the pages of a very believable human drama. Although not specifically mentioned by name except in the subtitle and in the “For Further Reading” section at the end of the book, that Curriculum is A Course in Miracles [ACIM] scribed by Dr. Helen Schucman, beginning in 1965.

Since the book is fictional, some may think his description of this “Curriculum” is fictional as well. That’s not true. It is very REAL and is the basis for this book.

What Allan Ramsay has mastered in his book is nothing short of a miracle. When we define a “miracle” as a shift in perception, that is indeed what occurs throughout its pages, not only in the book but within the reader as well.

Although the book is set in 2032, there are still societal turmoils as we have today; and why wouldn’t they be? Aren’t we doomed to repeat the past over and over unless we somehow find a better way?

Yet the big question is how? How do we find this better way that has eluded mankind for all these millennia? And that is exactly what this book answers. It is a book that is solely dedicated to that better way---the “alternate path,” which is awakening to LOVE; and we do that when we remove the barriers to Love’s Presence.

“The journey to God is merely the reawakening of the knowledge of where you are always and what you are forever. It is a journey without distance to a goal that has never changed. Truth can only be experienced. It cannot be described, and it cannot be explained. I can make you aware of the conditions of truth, but the experience is of God. Together we can meet its conditions, but truth will dawn upon you of itself.” ACIM OE CH 8 VI 51

That is what Computing Love so beautifully and completely accomplishes!

In this story, the main “character” Kyle, a physicist born two decades after the death of Dr. Schucman, is given the Curriculum again 33 years later, “amid much questioning and wondering and bewilderment,” p.1 just as Helen had experienced as the scribe.

At first, all of Kyle’s energy is on working with a Quantum Computer he is developing to “compute” solutions to the world’s problems. Yet In the process, he discovers so much more.

While Kyle is continuing to work on his Quantum Computer on one track, another journey begins for him on a parallel track. He meets two seeming dream figures, Marci and Aimer, who are two wise and other-worldly beings. They begin to teach him the Curriculum and how to apply it. Ever so slowly, Kyle begins to release his defenses against the truth and work to resolve past guilt; thus, he allows the Curriculum to enter deeply into his experience.

As he does, he begins to be in touch with his Inner Teacher, the One given to all of us the moment we thought we had separated from Love. Now, all throughout the story, there are snippets of wisdom sprinkled like GEMS based on this timeless Curriculum:

“Nothing comes before or after Eternity. It simply is. Here, though, it seems that events unfold on their own over time. If you were to see the unfolding as something that happens naturally, you’d be able to avoid getting emotionally involved as they unfold. You’d learn forgiveness.” p.58

In fact, Kyle later assumes the mantra, “Let's see what happens,” p.174 as the ego is set aside and he opens to the natural unfoldment of Love set free to be Itself.

“Kyle listened as his Teacher gently insinuated ideas his awareness could understand. You are loved. You are cared for and watched over. Marci, Aimer and all the people you think you know…you are all extensions of what your Creator Is. Love. When you work from your ego mind you find only fear. When you work from your Right Mind you find only Love. Everything Real is that. Nothing else exists.” p.162

With vivid contrasts, the story continues to illustrate the differences between choosing fear or choosing Love while the choice becomes very clear. Only one is Real.

Now, when these two tracks intersect, i.e., the building of the Quantum Computer and the realization of the Curriculum, he experiences what is profoundly “mind” altering. He begins Computing LOVE!

It feels as though this book were Divinely Inspired and it is my honor to have met Allan Ramsay and to have been given the opportunity to read what I feel he was given by Spirit to share.

This book is an opportunity for ACIM students, and anyone who finds that they are opening themselves to a deeper experience and remembrance of why they came here and what their purpose is, to finally visualize the Curriculum of the Course in practical, everyday terms.

While I was reading it, even before finishing it, I felt a shift in my awareness. I felt that I AM not alone and that I AM always being guided whenever I choose to listen. I also noticed that now, when I read news articles, I AM looking at them from above the battleground more than ever before. This means that I am no longer believing I am within the drama, but I can see it through the eyes of Love which show me what is REAL.

As a Course student, my anxiety about the parts of the Course that tell me this world will dissolve and time will end have been put to rest. There is nothing to fear. Only Love is Real.

In a sense, it has raised my awareness toward my purpose in a most profound way. It has given me renewed Vision for what is possible when I open my awareness to the All That Is, which is --- LOVE!

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!

“Child of God, my message is for you to hear and give away as you answer the Holy Spirit within you.” ACIM OE CH 5 IV 31

I thank you, Allan Ramsay, for listening and “giving away” as you answered the Holy Spirit within you!
