Starlight Gods #5

Poisonous Dream

Rate this book
Don't you sometimes wish that everything was just a dream?

My name is Daniel Moore, future heir of Realm Ten, ArchAilennia.

I've never felt regret like this before, such turmoil clinging to my very soul. I had vowed once long ago to never endure such pain and torment. Yet, such a vow has already been broken and this time, it's to someone far more dear.

My princess is everything to me. She's my light when the shadows attempt to cloud my way, my beacon of hope when doubt aims to cripple me, and now she's my greatest sorrow because I can't face her. To look into those hollow, turquoise eyes and realize I'm the cause of such agony breaks my heart.

Could she forgive me for my error of judgment? Would she even glance my way for the pain I've made her endure? Only time will tell.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Poor Mako just cannot catch a break despite all she has already been though. We start with her still in a coma pretty much after being stabbed with the venom in the last book. All of them are doing everything they can to make her better though it is looking like she will lose the use of her legs once she wakes up. the problem is that she has been down this road before back in the facility and just might break her to do it again. Thankfully she has her loyal Star Knights to assist her but just when things are starting to look a little more rosy we hit that ending which blew my mind making me need the next book like right now. If you have enjoyed the series in the previous book then obviously you have to read this one. if you have not read at least book 1 & 2 then I suggest you start there and I doubt you will regret it. I am totally addicted to Mako and am really enjoying her story so I give it 4/5 stars.

Okay. I was seriously enjoying this book. And this series as a whole all the way up until that cliffhanger ending. Now I’m not even mad about the cliffhanger. The next book is already out. So it’s not like I need to wait a year to read it. It’s the content of the cliffhanger that seriously pissed me off. Like it’s so similar to something that’s already happened in this series so far. The author couldn’t come up with something else? Out of all the plot twists there could possibly have been, this is what she went with? Tf. 🙄🙄

Now let me say a little about the book itself. You continue learning more and more about Mako and her guys throughout this book. And you can’t help but salivate at the prospect of learning about the guys. Because seriously, they’re all hot af.

And while this book is much like Tainted Rose, with the no action, it was still super good. In my opinion. Again until that ending. I’m so annoyed with it that I can’t give this book five stars. Because seriously. Why repeat something when you can write about something totally new. And I get that it’s probably going to be important to the next book. But I’m just annoyed.

I'm really torn with this review as there were things I really liked, and things I personally weren't such a fan of.
***WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS***

What I liked:
* Finally learning about Daniels past, and seeing Daniel step up and stop running from everything
* Makos reunion with her parents and Kade
* Make getting to spend more time with Kai
* More mention of the 6th Knight

What I wasn't such a fan of:
* Despite being a team for 10-15yrs, the Knights all fall apart and stop working and communicating as a team
* Mako retreats and lets Midnight deal with a lot of things
* The change in relationships - i had liked that this series was focused on Mako and her Knights, but now it's also Midnight and the Knights, and all the spirits with each other.
* The competition in general, but also how Mako and her spirits use the torture methods that were used on them in the facility. I get that they have a dark side and need to show strength, but for me they crossed a line.
* The ending. Kinda over Mako being helpless and getting kidnapped...

Overall, I didn't really feel like there was much character growth from the previous books..

Great continuation! Cannot wait to find out who the red knight is . . . Maybe its Anya/Ann and it turned black because she lost her memories! But SERIOUSLY that ending 😭😭

This book created a lot of mixed emotions. Mako was finally on Heila to be with her family but it doesn't happen like it was supposed to. She is severely injured and almost dies. We see a completely different side to her. She was this strong character that moves past her memories but she was depressed and withdrawn in this book. She mostly relies on Midnight to be her and she retreats. We learn about some more things that happened to her in the facility. I love that we learned more about Daniel. This past is difficult but he steps up. I love that we see more of Midnight because she doesn't seem like a spirit but almost the opposite of Mako. We also meet her family and she get to interact with them. I can't wait for the next book!

Mako is back in her home realm and she's hurt. She struggling with feeling worthless and useless because of an injury. As Mako tries to learn to love herself in spite of her condition, her knights are struggling with the emotional distress of watching their love almost die. Besides all of the emotional drama, there is royal tournament that Mako has to participate in, despite her injuries. Will Mako be able to fight through her cloud of depression and participate in a tournament? Or will she succumb to the darkness in her mind yet again?

OH MY EFFING GOODNESS!!! This book was just SO much. The feels. There were so many feels. Mako's struggles made me want to hug her. Her knights' distress made me want to feed them soup and cuddle them. Her family were (mostly) so freaking nice and loving and caring. I wanted to be their daughter/sister. THE FIGHT SCENE WAS EPIC!!! Hope and Midnight are really scary. Well. All of Mako's spirits are scarily awesome.

I really like this series and I love they fact that a full length book involving this realm is released monthly or some insanely short amount of time like that. As someone who reads fast and reads a lot, I can appreciate an author who writes extremely fast.

And last thing, THE COVERS ARE ALL AMAZEBALLS! The details and the high quality graphics of the cover is honestly unreal.

Highly recommend this series and can't wait for the next one!

Mako and her Star Knights are finally back on Heila but it's not like they expected. Instead of the joyful reunion, they all anticipated, Mako is fighting for her life after being stabbed and poisoned with Nephilim. Few rarely survive the poison and the few who do are paralyzed. Mako faced this once before in the facility and was determined to be useless and was supposed to be discarded. Now facing this again the idea of being rejected by her family and knights is more than she can bear. Her knights are not holding up well either. Marcus can't control his dragon, Elias and Eli had a panic attack and are hospitalized, Kai finally breaks under his distress, Ryder is struggling with everyone's emotions, and Daniel is overwhelmed with guilt, regret. He blames himself for Mako's condition, he still holds guilt over his past and now has additional remorse over his actions towards Mako. He understands that he let his personal feelings interfere with his duty towards the princess and is determined to find a cure for her even if she no longer holds any love for him. Mako must fight through the darkness of her mental pain, face her physical trauma, and try to regain her place in her family but being home also means a return to her royal obligations. There is a royal tournament that Mako must participate in, despite her injuries since Kade competed last year and Xavier is still away on a mission. Add in pain caused by a loved one, an unseen danger from an old enemy and Mako time outside of the facility demands every much strength as surviving inside. But Mako and her spirits are no longer alone in the fight.

This book is an emotional journey! Mako's struggle, in the beginning, is absolutely heartbreaking. Her reaction is understandable but devastating. Her Knights showed their worth during this time even with their own weaknesses. Daniel facing his past, opening up and sharing, admitting his fear and guilt, and working tirelessly for Mako's recovery made up for any past mistakes. The Knights were wonderful but Mako's family might have been even better. I have criticized them in the past books because they didn't race to be by her side. However, the King, Queen, and Kade (Mako's male twin who doesn't like unicorns, HA!) were phenomenal. I loved their time together. I will hold my tongue about others. I'm sure there will be enough judgment, anger, guilt, and regret without me piling on. Fear does not bring out the best in any of us!

This book had so much to love. The Knight's unconditional love and acceptance over Mako's paralysis. The lengths that the Knights are willing to go to for Mako. Kade and Mako's sibling silliness. Daniel's healing. Daniel's little sister. The arena fight and Hope kicking some serious Archangel a**. Late night milk rendezvous. Unicorns. The storyline was advanced so much. It's unbelievable everything that happened or was revealed in this book. However, I will admit to being disappointed. Please don't yell at me! I loved this book but it was like getting caramel instead of precious chocolate. I like Midnight. I LOVE Mako. There wasn't enough Mako in this book for me and when she was present it was heavy. Mako is one of my top 5 female characters in any current series. I missed my smiling, sweet, silly, adorable, milk addicted, sleepwalking princess. I understand the trial she had to face and conquer but it was too little Mako, too much Midnight for me. I want Midnight to be treated like the other spirits and play more of a supporting role, not to be so front and center. This is only my personal preference but it lessened my pure enjoyment of the book which is why this is a 4star for me and not a 5star.

The ending was devastating and exciting. The change of direction for the next book has my curiosity in overdrive already. My obsession with Mako and her Knights definitely won't be letting up anytime soon! Definitely one of my favorite on-going series. Yumoyori Wilson is a talented author; her characters, the story, the depth of feeling in each book is outstanding. Consider how fast she writes I find her extraordinary. I am quite a fan!

Had to take breaks!!!

I never and I mean never take breaks when I’m reading! As a speed reader once I open a book I don’t stop until it is done. This is the first book I had to take multiple breaks from reading I called them “breath breaks.” Having to take a break from reading might sound like a negative thing, but in this case it is the exact opposite! I had to take multiple breaks from reading because I was so choked up from what I was reading I could not actually see the words in front of me... and I had to take breaks so that I could breathe and remind myself that it was an excellent thing that the author was making me so overwhelmed that I did have to take actual breaks. Yumoyori Wilson continues to astound me at her ability her talent and her sheer passion for the characters that she brings us. These fantastical worlds that she creates are so fantastical that in any other authors hand might not “work.“ And yet in Wilson’s masterful hands manages to feel real and solid and so poignant that you go on the journey to these lands with all of these incredible character. It doesn’t hurt that Mako is obsessed with unicorns loves sparkles and shiny things and has an effervescent personality this is a character that I deeply relate to as I am also obsessed with unicorns love shiny and sparkly things and basically tried to live my life as if every day were possibly my last. But the talent comes in making a character in a book so real that you honestly feel like this is a character that might be someone that you would bump into you in a store or shop or restaurant and automatically “connect with.“ in addition often authors who write simultaneous series even if those series interconnect or are interwoven seem to find their focus shifted and sometimes unbalanced and some of their works suffer for it, not Wilson. She continues to give us books with believable lovable characters and incredible worlds so real that you wish you could reach out touch them and jump on the next ship out to their location (s). Do yourself a favor if you have not yet read any of Wilson‘s books put every single one of them on your must read list here is an author who truly has passion love and respect for the written word for storytelling and for her audience. I am in awe of Yumoyori Wilson.

I'll admit it took me a little longer to get into this one than the previous Starlight Gods books. However, by mid-way thru and definitely by the end, I came to the conclusion that this may be the best one of the series yet.

As with previous Starlight Gods books, this one picks up right where the last book left off. Mako is in a coma recovering from the poison on the blade she was stabbed with.

A lot of the first half of this book centers on Daniel's guilt and how that's affected him, the rest of Mako's knights, and Mako and her spirits. There is a good growth for Mako and her spirits.

One of things I most enjoyed (and had been looking forward to) was Mako being reunited with her family. There's a lot of good quality time spent with Mako and one of her brothers and her parents. It's really sweet and was very well done. I was worried there was going to be too much focus given to Mako and her knights and her family would take a back seat. Thankfully, that did not happen. Mako's family is just as wonderful as they've been written to be. They're all learning how to be a family again. And learning who Mako has become after being gone for so long. It was really nice that they weren't trying to force her to be the same little girl she was when she was taken as a child.

There were some very touching scenes. I cried. I'm not ashamed to admit it. Additionally, there's some really kick ass fight scenes, not just featuring Mako.

Mako and her knights finally discuss and come to an understanding amongst themselves regarding their relationship.

Spoilers! Does anytine else feel like the books have gotten predictable?

3.5 stars. Spoilers!

I have a few major complaints. As start knights, mako's guards suck. They might be bad ass and all powerful but what's the point of all that power of they are always letting crap happen to Mako? Are they not her guards? Do they not guard her body? I mean isn't that their jobs? If so, they suck and need to be hired to guard like a self storage place? Maybe they could keep one of those safe? We have all read books where the Knights can be broken/in love the body they are guarding and still do their job. But not makos. The girl is always getting threatened /almost killed/or put into a bad situation and they are hardly ever around. And the relationships are ok but if you only want to read the plotline books, and not all the side plot stories, then be prepared to be confused half the time. You have stuff being brought up from a completely different series in this story, using it as a moving point and expecting everyone to follow along and it happens several times. I don't want to read the side stories on earth I just wanted to read about mako, in a linear fashion worth her knights hope fully at some point doing their jobs. It wasn't mentored that reading the side series (that I guess takes place DURING? Book 2 that we don't know about just reading book 2) was pretty important. Idk it feels all jumbled and the only reason I gave it 3.5 stars is because I have hopess it will get better.

The Fourth book in the Starlight God's series starts directly aftter Ryder ends. I enjoyed this much better than Ryder simply because it wasn't going back. However, it did give perspective to what happen Ryder. Not to mention, I was dying to know what happened to poor Makoto. Filled with tear jerking moments and small breaths of humor tempered with love. Compared to her other books it just has a few moments of delight. Of course, it is always filled with Unicorn-topia!

I have to be totally honest. I had a hard time putting this book down to sleep. Not to mention the closer I got to the end today, the more interruptions I kept having. I was going NUTS to just finish to find out what happened!

You do have to be ready for things to get worse. Life is never easy for any of us. I like that she just doesn't go through all this to live happily ever after. Makoto reminds me of my favorite saying: "Things can always get worse, but at some point they HAVE to get better even if it's just for a moment and we should learn to really enjoy those little moments."
I have recently changed my mind about Lily being the last knight. They are still out there. Still unknown, however more hints are dropped. Now, we have to wait for the next Starlight Gods novel. However, don't worry there should be a cross over release to tide us over....I hope

4.5 stars for Poisonous Dream!

I kept flipping back and forth between a 4 and 4.5 stars for this book in the Starlight Gods series, but I ended up deciding on a 4.5 stars because of the ending. I know some are upset that it happened again to Mako, but with how Yumo constructed it, I am super intrigued about Jeffrey, Anya, and I assume the 6th knight who is also at this compound. July cant come soon enough!

In this part of the series, we get to see Mako go through a really dark time in her life and overcome more roadblocks. I can see the spirits and knights overlap become a little confusing, so many different options Yumo can do so that is kinda cool and kinda frustrating at the same time haha. I liked the added dimension with Midnight, but it would kind of get redundant if Lily and Rose went through the same thing. I am totally for love is love, but restraint is super important I think and not let it run super wild all the time. I absolutely fell for Hope in this book. I am so happy to see more of her, Daniel, and Azriel. Finally getting to know what type of angel Daniel was great. I loved some of the little twists and turns and cameos!

Like all of Yumoyori’s books this is well written, however, I am on the fence with this book. I enjoy reading more about Daniel and seeing this story from other people’s POV. This bits that I did not enjoy is that all the knights just loose themselves when something happens to Mako. They also stop being a team!! I would think after them putting up with so much they had learnt to cope better as a team. I would like to read more into the story of Mako being back with her knights and actually bring who she is instead of something always happening to her and her being seperate from her knights and family! However the shining light in these books is Mako. She is a fantasticly written character that just shines from the pages. There are so many emotional that the reader feels from her. I am looking forward to this story continuing and seeing Mako reunited once again with her knights and family. This is a good book to read to learn more depth into Daniel and to learn from other POV and this book set the scene for upcoming books! Recommended to anyone who enjoys the starlight god series.

Another amazing read!

Ms. Wilson does it again! In Poisonous Dream Mako has finally made it to Heila, but she is in a coma. Daniel, Kai, her mother and brother work tirelessly to care for her until she wakes up. The other Knights are present, but are having trouble dealing with their own emotions and can't be present like they want to.

Mako finally wakes up to find out what is going on and when she finds out, it is devasting. In PD, Mako faces her toughest challenge yet and it was heartbreaking to go through with her. Every fear, every tear, every outburst of anger was felt on a soul deep level.

When and how she overcomes the challenge is a spoiler, but the triumph she felt and who helped was amazing! Totally worth the tears in the beginning.

Great!

First off - I think this is my favorite cover so far :) it’s gorgeous. In regards to the story - I think it is my favorite in the series so far. I like that it seemed to focus more on the relationships and we get to learn more about the families and histories. Daniel opens up about his past and his insecurities, and Midnight opens up more too. I do think this story focused a little more on Midnight than Mako, but I felt it really gave us more depth to Midnight. I was disappointed a little with the ending, but I am intrigued by this new twist in where the story is going!

This book fills in gaps from previous books....this is the progression of story that I’ve been waiting for!!

This is by far my favorite book of the series so far. I loved it so much, it was a serious whirlwind of emotions.

The writing was superb, there is real growth and development of the characters and the storyline. And the storyline, oh my god! It is so intense!

I think what I really love about this series is that you don’t just see what the main character is going through and how she changes, but we also get an in-depth view of each of the males of her harem. Five books, and I have yet to get bored!!

So first I have to say that this cover is absolutely gorgeous! That in itself will make you want to buy this book. Ok on the the story. We pick up where we left off with Mako being poisoned. The Knights, mainly Daniel, are really struggling. There are a lot of emotions going on in this book. A lot of guilt, a lot of feeling worthless. But there's a lot of relationship development going on too. I'm not sure how I feel about the end of the book though. I'm sure it has to happen for a reason but I feel it's a big step backwards in progression. I'm just gonna wait and see what happens next.

Love Mako

The beginning of the book Mako deals with depression with a situation that is similar to something she had done to her at the facility. My heart breaks for her to more we find out about everything she’s been through but she’s so strong and loving and caring you can’t help but fall in love with her. She finally gets to reconnect with her family and most of them welcome her back with open arms and it’s amazing to see their relationship develop. Then Jeffery reappears and well we know nothing good comes from that. Amazing read and I can’t wait for the next one.

Still enjoying the series

I am still enjoying this series but this book was a mixed bag for me - I loved the fact that we finally meet some of Makos family and we delve deeper into the backstory of a couple characters. The reason I gave it a 4 star is that the series is starting to be predictable - something happens to Mako, her knights fall apart and it takes Mako to put them back together - these are supposed to be strong knights. Not giving up on this series as I love the characters and the concept plus with THAT ending I have to see what happens next!!!

Stopped reading CANT TAKE NO MORE

Okay so I fell in love book 1 the it just got out of control, I don’t understand why they just don’t make the book about midnight that’s all the story is centered around anyways and I can’t stand it and now all the guys love her it’s STUPID she is a spirt like all the other one and they don’t get treaded like midnight I have completely given up on this series. I just hope that the unicorn books go great and don’t end up a hot mess like this one PLEASE PLEASE don’t ruin the unicorn books PLEASE I enjoyed it .

Makoto can't relax!

Makoto is finally back in Heila but she's injured. She receives healing help from her knights and family which accelerates her recovery time. During the recovery, she spends most of her time with Kai and Daniel and the connection deepens between them and their spirits. Daniel tells Makoto some of his story and it is heartbreaking! Of course, wherever Makoto is, danger follows but most of the book is about Makoto connecting with her parents, brother, and the knights.

What can I say about this book and not give away any spoilers?
Well I can say this and that is this book is awesome! I was hooked before I even finished the first chapter and I stayed hooked until the very end.
I loved the constant building and releasing that happened all throughout this whole story.
I like how Yumoyori Wilson creates her stories making the realities feel so real and making all the heroines and heroes both strong but vulnerable at the same time which I think is the perfect blend.
So yes I do recommend this book because I think it’s awesome and I bet you will too.

Another fantastic story in the Starlight Gods series, as if Mako and her Knights have not been through enough, they now have to get through Mako being stabbed and poisoned by Nephalim poison

Packed full of action, angst and excitement, we learn more about her Knights and their past and watch how they overcome these events whilst trying to maintain their relationships and keep hope. Parts of the story are extremely touching with tender moments and a great case of the feels

This book had me needing to take emotional breathers at times and tissues used a bunch of those. So emotional, every .feeling from complete happiness to worthlessness and everything in between with Mako the boys and Eli! She finally makes it and meets her family in Helia. All the trials she and her knights have had to and will have to go through are heartbreaking but there are the great moments she has with her family and knights that make the trials seem worth it....I can't wait to find out what happens to them all in the next book! Awesome edition to the series! Congrats on another amazing book Yumoyori Wilson!

Once again a great book by Yumoyori.
I liked learning more about Daniel and him being in the book more. He’s one of my favorites!

I can’t wait to find out who the 6th knight is.

My only issue and why I did 4 instead of 5 stars is the relationships...
I like for the RH’s I read to have one girl with however many men and they all focus on her. No M/M, no F/F. I want all the attention on the one girl.

This has F/F which I was just ignoring in earlier books but it’s getting to be where they are all just a mess of being together. Mako’s with all the guys and possibly all the spirits plus Eliasanne. But then Midnight is also with Eliasanne and now all the guys. And Mako’s spirits are with their respective spirits in the guys. It’s just becoming to much and not focusing on Mako and her guys as much.

5+☆'s!

I don't know how Yumoyori does it with her writing but so many times before when I've read a series the books are good but not as great as the initial books. Somehow, it seems every book she releases is better than her last but her last was a 5☆ book, so this books is definitely 5+☆. I can't wait for what's to come, this book is full of twist & turns that you won't see coming & it will leave you craving more right away!

Oh my goodness this book hit me right in the feels!!! I laughed and cried and cried and cried! Such heavy emotions poor Mako is going through! Such an absolutely hard time in her life. She has to show strength and determination to get through such trials. With the acceptance of her lovers & star knights she has the strength to move forward. But oh my that ending! Absolutely hanging out for the next book!!!

A book about the loss of one's self and the way to self discovery

Taking up where Tainted Rose ended, Mako is severely injured and have lost the feeling in her legs. Her knights does everything they can to help her both physically and mentally.

The book is well written and with deep deep feels. However it did seem a bit repetitive and it ends with a huge cliffhanger.
Can´t wait for the next book!

This was a great addition to this series, we get to see some emotional scenes between Mako and her knights and family. Also get to know Midnight better, and some of the others too. We have to trust in the stars because I cannot believe in all the bad things that happens with Mako and the new cliffhanger just left me more curious for more story. I have faith Yumoyori won’t let us worry in vain and is going to give more amazing stories for us.

Wow!!!

Archangels, Demons, Fairys, and more! The characters start mixing it up with each other. Love and jealousy can not exist for Mako and a group of 5 knights and their spirits. Mako is out through trial after trial and comes out stronger after each one. The ending is a cliff hanger that totally drives me crazy. More questions raise for one character and another is introduced that makes you really wonder. Can't wait for the next book.
