I live in Switzerland next to the Zürich Lake. I am married, have two beautiful boys, two cats and a dog. In my previous (pre-author) life, I was a neuroscientist, a marketing manager and an entrepreneur. Now, my work is my passion: writing. I hope you will enjoy the world of my imagination.
Swift Escape has a great plot at the core of the novel. Dr. Jane McGregor, a bright young microbiologist is working in a lab in Boston and steadily gaining acclaim for her work.
After completing a project and being published, Jane and her colleagues are suddenly transferred to a top secret lab. Her boss, Professor David Wright, is put in charge due to the sudden death of the lab's director, Dr. Evelyn Rosenberg.
Jane, along with her colleagues, Frank, Miyako, Florence and Chris are beset with uneasiness at the clandestine manor in which they have to work as well as the unceasing pressure they are under to produce results.
To my dismay, in the beginning of this exciting story, a mysterious love interest, Sam Swift, is introduced into Jane's life. Although Sam does add to the plot line, his character makes Jane turn into a weak kneed, empty headed, witless wonder every time she is near him.
I love a good romance as much as the next person, but the endless ruminations and gasping for breath and passionate love scenes just seemed to take away from a really good story.
And the rest of the book is high intensity intrigue with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. I'm giving it a 3 stars because Tara Jade Brown is a good storyteller. I hope her other books are more like her first one.
Really good story. Found the main character's reaction to her new neighbor a little over the top, especially since she was a scientist. She practically got paralyzed with lust every time she saw him. And when she didn't see him, she fantasized about him. Despite that, I would recommend to fans of action/thriller novels.

The elements that I liked about this book, I really enjoyed. There were also some meh elements. Overall, I liked it.
The language can be pretty clunky, and there's nothing special about the romantic element. Also, there are sex scenes in first-person present tense and that was just not working for me. However, as an action/suspense book, there's a lot to like. The pacing is a little uneven, as the mystery builds for the first 50% and THEN the pieces click together and it becomes much more action-y. But looking back you see it build and give you clues. And I really loved having a heroine who's an accomplished scientist. I don't know much about science, but my mom works in a similar setting and from what I could tell it looked pretty believable showing her at work and using the vocabulary. The science aspect was definitely my favorite part, and it made for some great world-building and authenticity.
I greatly appreciate the author’s confidence in her reader’s intellect by writing about complex topics and concepts most of us will be unfamiliar with, including me. The story is compelling. I loved it! I am eagerly awaiting for her next book! - Patty
