THE COMPLETE WHITE LIES DUET - Provocative and Shameless - two full-length books

There are those moments in life that are provocative in their very existences, that embed in our minds forever, and sometimes our very souls. They change us, mold us, maybe even save us. But some are darker, dangerous. If we allow them to, they control us. Seduce us. Quite possibly even destroy us.

The moment I walked into Sonoma’s Reid Winter Winery and Vineyard and made eye contact with Faith Winter for the first time was one of those moments. Provocative because I know at least one of her secrets, of which, I suspect she has many. Provocative because she believes I was a stranger to her when we met, but I am not. Provocative because I sought her out, with no intention of touching her. But now I have. Now I want her. Now I have to have her. But that changes nothing. It doesn’t change why I came for her.

Nick "Tiger" Rogers, sought out Faith Winter with revenge as his agenda. He made her his obsession. He seduced her. He made her want him. He made her trust him. And then he trusted her. He wanted her. He loved her.
But now, the lies will be exposed, the truth revealed.
Hearts will be broken. Lives shattered.
Nick. Faith.
The truth. The passion.
The SHAMELESS obsession.

The White Lies duet is the story of Faith and Nick. He thinks she killed his father. She is struggling to save the business her father left her. They are both good characters and they work well together. Faith is very confident and forward in her personal life. She does keep some parts of her life a secret. Nick did not have a great childhood but he wants to avenge his father's death. That sounds very generic but it all ties together to create a very good story.

Faith's driving determination to protect her father's legacy even though it's not her dream was admirable. I was glad to see that she grows and develops during the course of the story in order to come to a compromise and a better balance. Nick definitely embodies his nickname Tiger during most of the story. It was nice to watch as he realized that his core beliefs about his father's death needed to be reconsidered and realigned. He really has a chance to show that he is more than just a cold and controlling jerk. Faith and Nick are a good pair because they are nuanced and complex in ways that complement one another.

I really enjoyed the writing style and I thought the story really flowed off the page. The reason I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5 is because I didn't get the emotional punch I was looking for. I have read other books by Lisa Renee Jones and they tend to give me both the highs and lows of emotions. I did smile a couple of times but I wasn't worried or upset by any part of the story. I do think the conclusion is fulfilling because all of the smaller parts come together in a tidy package.

I would recommend this book to fans of Lisa Renee Jones' work and to newcomers. I think this would be a great first book to read from this author. Warning, there are characters from a prior series in this book. You might not understand all of the relationships if you haven't read the prior books (for example, Nick's friend Chris sells a very personal painting at the beginning that won't have an emotional hit if you haven't read Chris' story) I would recommend this book to readers that like contemporary romance with a little bit of mystery.

This is a duet published together as one so I knew I was in for a longer read, as well as in for a read where the pacing would change in the middle at the end of book 1, then have to restart at book 2. However it didn’t really ramp up all that much and the whole storyline felt so drawn out that surely it could have been covered in 1 book instead of 2.

Our heroine has inherited a vineyard even though all she ever wanted to be was a painter, but she buries that part of herself to keep her family business afloat. Our hero is a cutthroat lawyer who is immediately drawn to the heroine but also suspects her of having something to do with his own father’s death. How else to find out what she’s hiding than to become close to her.

The connection between the two characters seems very intense and obsessive but also not at the same time, if that makes sense? They moved so quickly in their relationship while the plot itself moved slowly. Heat levels were ok but really fizzled out after what seemed like a big promise at the start. Overall this book was just a bit meh for me.

Good duet, but I think it could have been one book. A little drawn out for my taste. However, the writing was fantastic, as always, and I live that we got Sara and Chris Merit! I could take another series of them!

This has become a favorite. It has love, lies, deception, death, and truth. Nick and Faith met with lies but are attracted to one another. It stated with sex and continued with growing together and weaving through the lies.

Nick and Faith have an immediate attraction that simmers and boils. They are brought together by family past actions and work together, somewhat, in trying to uncover the truth.
