A lifetime student of Scripture, popular television personality Kathie Lee Gifford has been traveling to Israel since she was seventeen years old. Having a Jewish father, she has always felt what she calls "a deep resonance in my very being for the Jewish people and Land of the Covenant—Israel." But it wasn't until she started studying the original texts in Hebrew and Greek and hiking the land with teachers like Ray Vander Laan that she finally began to find what her soul had been longing for.

In this six-session video curriculum, Kathie Lee invites group participants to join her as she revisits some of these sites in Israel that have impacted her life and recounts events that happened there. As she shares her story, she will be accompanied by co-author Rabbi Jason Sobel, a Messianic Jewish Rabbi who will provide fascinating background details and eye-opening revelations that make the story of the New Testament come alive. Kathie Lee and Rabbi Sobel will take participants beyond the typical "Sunday School" teaching so prevalent in churches today to examine the true texts of the Bible.

Something profound happens when we follow along the ancient paths in the actual places where Jesus taught, healed, lived, died, was resurrected, and ascended into heaven. As Kathie Lee and Rabbi Sobel reveal in this study, Jesus is indeed the Rock and the Rabbi whom we follow along this Road in life. And when we are introduced to the mysteries of the Word by teachers who are actually trained in the ancient rabbinical way, radical transformation begins to renew our hearts and minds.

About the author

Kathryn Lee Gifford (born Epstein, previously Johnson; born August 16, 1953) is an American television host, singer, songwriter, author, comedian, and actress. She is the co-host, with Hoda Kotb, of The Kathie Lee and Hoda Show, the fourth hour of NBC Today. She is best known for her 15-year run (1985–2000) on the talk show Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee, which she co-hosted with Regis Philbin. She has received 11 Daytime Emmy nominations and won her first Daytime Emmy in 2010 as part of the Today team. Gifford's first television role had been as Tom Kennedy's singer/sidekick on the syndicated version of Name That Tune, from 1974 to 1978. She also occasionally appears on the first three hours of Today and is a contributing NBC News correspondent.

Kathie Lee married Paul Johnson, a Christian composer/arranger/producer/publisher in 1976. After their divorce in 1982, she married sportscaster and former NFL player Frank Gifford in 1986. He died in 2015. Kathie Lee has released a number of studio albums and written a number of books.

For anyone who has even a passing interest in Israel, history or faith this is a terrific read. Going on a virtual trek to the place setting of multiple scriptural scenes with a rabbi to teach is enlightening. I bet most anyone who looks through this book will walk away with a sense of God's intimacy .

I was invited to be part of the 6-week online study of The Rock, the Road & the Rabbi presented by Bible Gateway
In this study Kathy Lee Gifford takes the knowledge that she gleaned by being part of a Ray Vander Laan tour and her friendship with Rabbi Jason Sobel to “create” a new kind of study.

I love that prior to the official start of the study we were given an optional 7-day devotional to kick start the learning process.
There was also a weekly hands-on activity to aid in driving the point home.

WEEK 3 – Capernaum: Ministry Headquarters
WEEK 4 – Galilee: Ministry Grounds

I anxiously awaited the lesson for each week and I was humbled each and every time as I realized just how much I didn’t know.

I joined several friends for this online six-session video study where Kathie Lee Gifford visits Israel and shares her story with Messianic Jewish Rabbi Jason Sobel. The six sessions cover the following locations: Bethlehem, Nazareth, Capernaum, Galilee, Mount of Olives, and Jerusalem. This study guide provides helpful maps, background information for each location, video highlights/questions, hands-on activities, and "digging deeper" questions for personal study. This study guide was helpful for our online video series with questions that were fairly straightforward and not overly complex.

The content of this book is actually worthy of 4 stars—its great when used with the book and the videos that make up this study. The problem is the format—it is very confusing, and would have been better served as a book/study guide all in one. And I knocked stars off for the study guide not covering several chapters of the book—all of the information was so good, I just wanted more to accompany the book.
