In ”Once Upon a Midnight Dreary,” three prominent villains in Batman’s rogues gallery receive invitations from the other villains and all meet at the Arkham Detention Facility For Youth on Halloween night.
The Scarecrow, The Mad Hatter and The Penguin compare their invitations. Penguin thinks they have been set up by the Dark Knight. The deadly trio comment on what they hate most about Batman. Fun conversation.
They make a run for it and dart for the facility’s hedge maze only to retreat when they see some type of Batman totem.
A Fear Toxin causes them to flashback to their tortured pasts.
They wake, having survived the night, vowing to never speak of this night again.
Cut to a waking Bruce Wayne confessing to Alfred that he enjoyed the night off.
Last panels show Bruce’s computer screen, a printer, and the invitations to the villains.
Fun one-off story. Great for Halloween. There’s a great panel of the Scarecrow, no dialogue, that evokes the threat of Halloween’s Michael Myers.
