Just plain stupid!!! Any graphic novel I read gets compared to what Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has done with Stephen King's 'The Stand', which this fails in comparison to that masterpiece.
I also feel that the author Eric Erdek, is way out their in left field, trying to bring something different to the genre but the storyline for me was stupid, way to dumb for what's out their, graphic wise hated it to generic and vanilla for what's out there.
An interesting introduction to a very original story, style and noir to spare. The layouts are a step up from the comics you may have read as a kid and deliver cinematic framing and add a tenseness to the dramatic night scenes. We've seen flawed heroes before but this is a new take. Added light and shade come from his background and backstory. I was left hanging for what happens next which is no bad thing but made me realise that as an adult I have taken to consuming graphic novels rather than serialised comic books. On smaller screens, it can be a bit of a harder read for the spectacle wearing, middle-aged bloke like myself so it is with some excitement that I note a KS campaign for hard copies is in-train. This would benefit from being in print. I would buy a 40-page graphic novel tomorrow if it existed.
2.5* So a mix of noir and human smuggling. It was dark and gritty but my biggest problem with it other than the over sexualisation of women was the fact there was never an episode 2 and it ends on a massive cliffhanger. Also that no one else heard the women there. There were a few little things that niggled with the story and it felt a little forced or trying to be overly comical/protective at times whilst ruthless at others which sent many mixed messages.
