This was written in 1907, 4 years after the first Teddy bears were imagined. The Teddy that stars in this book was a Christmas present, and lives with a family of toys which includes other bears. No humans appear in the art. Some rhymes address polar bears, another grizzlies. But each verse gives ideas for use of imagination in play.
The art and text provide windows into life 100 years ago. I'd like to see an original edition to compare the text (were there any changes?) and the quality of the art.
Lovely artwork and charming verse. Antiquated world view in terms of the treatment of certain ethnic groups. I read the original 1907 edition, so I'm not sure there were updates to the reprint.
