Best friends they may be, but Molly and Kate are very different individuals. Molly, a spoilt child and then an indulged wife, not only gets whatever she wants, she takes things that don't belong to her, including other women’s husbands. Kate, fiercely loyal, has, until now, always defended and protected her friend, at the same time offering refuge to Molly’s traumatised son. Against her better judgement, Kate is forced to revisit the deaths of two men; men who had affairs with Molly. Considered tragic and accidental at the time, fresh scrutiny and new revelations trigger a disturbing chain of events that have sickening consequences.
Molly either can’t or won’t mend her ways, and Kate, caught up in her own personal tragedy, is forced to draw a line in the sand. Their friendship is at breaking point; Molly has gone too far this time. All is not as it seems.
I love to go out and people watch and with this book I could do that in the comfort of my own home. The story centres round a group of long-term friends, well I use the term friends loosely, as one of them is there by default. Molly is the pretty one, Molly is the centre of attention but Molly isn’t the one you can trust, especially with anyone else’s husband. Molly has no conscientious where setting her sights on a man is concerned, no matter who he is married to. Having been spoilt by her dad she simply continued into adult life of just taking anything she fancied. She didn’t even let a little thing like being married herself make any difference. One of the other characters in the book sums up Molly perfectly, she is like Marmite you either love her or loathe her. I just kept switching camps on that one. She really is a complex character. This is a totally engrossing book to read, with a story that pulled me in right from the first chapter. It is a story of lies and an obsession that is terrifying to how far someone will go. People have died, very mysteriously and the group of friends begin to think seriously about Molly’s connection to the men. This is soooooo good. Loved how I was finding out about the past and connection of all the friends through conversations to new comers in the mix. Very clever, totally engrossing and with all gossip not always accurate. The group of friends have been together for years and feel they know all the warts of each of their pasts, but they all carry their own secrets. After all there is always two sides to every story and some of the group are master manipulators. There is a lot of bitterness that fester from the past within the group too. Not all that you hear is gospel. There are more sinners than saints. There are some really twisted and tragically damaged characters in the story, not all of them obvious. This is such a tight group that really care for each other but how far can you push someone before they finally snap. I thought that I had got everyone sussed but talk about being off the mark. I was just OMG and loved it. Just brilliant! I really can’t believe that is Terri Reynolds debut novel I can’t recommend it enough. A real top read that will wow you!
A great read-one of those that's happy to let you think you've got it all worked out only to randomly slap you in the face with another twist. Definitely worth reading :)
I love a book that gives you a variety of 'real' characters. You feel like the protagonists in this story could be living in your own town and each and every one of them seems to have something to hide. A fascinating read and a refreshing, subtle approach to suspense. No spoilers but you don't see it coming and even when you think you've got it ... you're wrong.
Didn't want to put it down. I found myself immersed in this town where something bad had happened - I couldn't wait to find out the truth. The twists made my head turn. Fab!
Loved, loved, loved this book. The people are so believable. It's just my cup of tea ... pulls you in and makes you fall in love with the people and the story - I didn't want it to end and I certainly didn't see the final twist coming. Highly recommended.
Title – The Blame Game Author – Terri Reynolds Genre – Mystery, Suspense, Thriller 347 Amazon Pages Rating 5 stars our of 5 Posted 2/19/2018 No. 07 - 2018
My Impressions: betrayal, lies, lies, lies, subterfuge, vicious behavior, avoidance,
Main Characters: Molly Pope - wife of James, waiting multiple years for a divorce petition to finalize. James Pope – Molly's quirky, vindictive, cruel, and sociopathic husband. Kate Lawson – Molly's best friend and enabler. Eddie Lawson – Kate's adoring and staunchly loyal husband. Fiona – Jilted wife, overbearing, revengeful widow of cheating husband.
Wow! I'm impressed. The author of The Blame Game has masterfully brewed a story that starts out softly and gradually builds intensity and conflict to a stunning climax. A small English town, miles from London, is the sitting for The Blame Game. The town is small enough that many people are privy to the nasty gossip and remember atrocious behavior long after it occurs. Molly Pope has committed serious but avoidable acts in the past, and then she's been brazen enough to repeat them again and again over the years. She is considered a low-life, pariah by those who recall and cling to the notoriety of her past. Molly has one thing most people in her position don't have. She has Kate, a true friend who endures her lies and indiscretions and maintains a caring relationship. Intrigue and innuendo plague other central characters to numerous to mention. Altogether the story evokes deep emotion in all the characters and the reader as well.
The ending caught me completely by surprise when the final scenes were disclosed
Now for the downside. Word editing is okay with minor issues. Comma's are the major fault here. There are scads of extra commas as well as missing ones plus a plethora of comma splices. Sentence structure suffers due to the comma issues. Character development is great for the large number of complex characters involved. Details abound about the characters and surroundings The writing style is slow paced and explores complex issues and intrigue around and between the characters. The plot is serious with extensive ramifications between the characters.
I rated the story five stars based on the plot, writing, and characters in spite of the major comma editing issues. If those are a compelling concern to you the rating drops to a four star.

I read the paperback version - it’s reassuring to find a suspense novel that doesn’t rely on too much blood and guts. This is a well thought out plot with realistic twists and turns and the characters are engaging and believable. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Looking forward to the next one already.
