The George Bernard Shaw Papers: Birtish Library Catalogue of Additions to the Manuscript Series

Rate this book
This important new catalogue contains descriptions and detailed indexing of the correspondence and papers of George Bernard Shaw and his wife Charlotte, acquired by the British Library in the course of seven decades. The volume is made up of two principal series of letters, one bequeathed by Shaw himself, and the other purchased from his residuary legatees. These are supplemented by related items also held by the British Library’s Department of Manuscripts, including Shaw letters found amongst the personal papers of his various correspondents, documents relating to publication, translation and performance of his works from the archive of the Society of Authors, scripts of the plays submitted for licensing to the Lord Chamberlain and thirty-seven volumes of correspondence and papers of Charlotte Shaw. A list of the British Library’s collection of books owned by Shaw, many of them privately printed, forms an appendix to the catalogue.
