Yellow Sunshine. More addictive than opium, more potent than cocaine, more dangerous than heroin. It ruins lives, destroys communities, and threatens the very country itself. It will take the River City police force everything they have to fight the scourge from street to bloody street.
Someone's dealing the worst drug the city has ever seen. THE REVENGIST is on the case with a brand new partner and a list of broken lives he's going to avenge. But to find the source of the poison, they'll have to go so far undercover that they might never make it out alive.
Winnipeg based author and filmmaker, I.D. Russell has created a shared universe of books (13 published so far) and films (2 features released) featuring River City Cop Frank Malone in ever crazier comedy/horror/action stories.
I never thought that the author of a book should leave a rating, but everyone else seems to, so I guess I will too. Here's some information about this book to help you decide if you want to read it. The REVENGIST is the toughest cop in 1980's Canada. He's Dirty Harry crossed with Frank Drebin, violent, a little clueless, quick with the one-liners, and prone to finding himself in the craziest situations imaginable. The Drug Wars series is a loose parody and recreation of the popular book series of the 70's and 80's like The Executioner, The Destroyer, The Assassin, etc. Heavily influenced by movies like Lethal Weapon and The Naked Gun you're going to find action and comedy in equal doses. I hope you'll give this series a chance!
I was immediately hooked by the cover. It looks like the great covers for the action series The Penetrator (snicker, sorry) from the '70s. I enjoyed the book for the most part. I understand that this series is going to be a blast from the past, but I could've done without all the He-Man Woman Haters (and anything else that is high on manliness) Club rhetoric. A little bit of that goes a long way and our protagonist never missed a moment to slight someone. Also, in the climax of the book, there is a joke about 'wearing a wire' that absolutely gets beat to death. Enough already! There were also moments that made me lol literally. I plan on reading the other two that are in this series. I thought it was a decent debut. Interesting characters. Well written for the most part. Definitely, an homage to all things Shoot'em Up from the 70s and 80s when The Executioner, Dirty Harry, Ahnold, and Stallone ruled supreme. Good stuff, Maynard.
