i discovered this fascinating discussion of _curiositas_ in 14th-c English lurking in the discard stack at the GTU library. have NO idea why they dumped it -- i got it for three bucks -- what a deal! sorely wish i had read this when i was still teaching Chaucer to reluctant sophomores in the backwoods. much about Mandeville's _Travels_ and especially about an author i had totally missed out on -- Richard de Bury and his _Philobiblion_. Dontcha even love the TITLE of that?
