Embrace the lasting legacy of Princess Diana with this keepsake Special Edition, filled with insightful writing and gorgeous photography from the LIFE archives. At her storybook royal wedding in 1981—“The Wedding of the Century”—Diana Spencer seemed the perfect match for Prince Charles, the dashing heir to the British throne. Though their story did not end happily ever after, Diana’s talent for truly connecting with people changed the monarchy forever, and her commitment to helping the underprivileged continues to inspire us today. From Prince William and Kate Middleton, to Prince Harry, and even Queen Elizabeth II, England’s royal family shows the influence of Diana’s bold and brave choices. LIFE Diana offers a touching remembrance of “The People’s Princess,” 20 years after her tragic death.

This was clearly a breathtaking magazine cover so to just walk by and not even stop even for a second seems so wrong. As it was Princess Di was a staple figure in my years of growing up while this pic completely displays her as the princess she was and will always be.
This magazine takes a step back and looks into the life of Diana from her conflicted childhood years to her freeing years as a young woman and then the howling storm of the rigid royal years. As such there is a lot of information that is included not only in just telling the story but also in the captions under the photos.
And although they are in a claim to be neutral and not take sides I feel the writers were leaning to fix a bit more the sides of Camilla and the British royals. As such they keep quoting a book that they mention may have questionable views even from the Princess herself while bringing out her flaws just a bit more than the brief reminder of Charles' known major fling. There is also a mentioned thought that Camilla won't take the Princess of Wales title that is now hers rightfully by marriage in respect to Di and her fans this implying she isn't that bad of a person.
At the same time even though the events are more or less chronological there is a bit of a jump in time. The reader will be reading about one point then be brought into a bit later times or even the modern-day events such as Will and Kate thus comparing how things were versus as to how they are now. As much as I can see a point for this it does mock the point that was made when it was mentioned that Kate has been attempts in her own life to dodge such comparisons.
All in all it is a quick and informative read that will remind people of this remarkable woman who seemed to touch our lives so deeply. It is a reminder of the feelings that we share with each other, the changes that occur within lifetimes and triumph even in times of trouble. And it is a gentle reminder of how we may be able to find our own gifts and using them to improve the world around us as well....
this was certainly an impulse buy (I picked it up last minute in the checkout lane at stop & shop), but i’m glad I got it. first of all, I love Princess Diana, and always have. this story of her life, however, really highlights her role as “the people’s princess” and makes her appealing as a role model and inspiration in fashion, perseverance, and service. it elevates her humanness, full of little anecdotes and photos of her life. the only reason it received 4 stars instead of 5 is because of my inexplicable desire to have learned just a little bit more, despite this being quite a comprehensive account of the life of Diana Spencer. all in all, I am glad to have added this piece to my collection, as it pays a beautiful tribute to a beloved princess and amazing woman.
I love everything royal, and I am most especially interested in the Princess of Wales. I think Life did a great job at remwbering a woman who still is mysterious and still very much loved today.
