Althea has written some 200 books and illustrated some of these herself. She started writing in 1968 the first ones they (Althea's then husband Mike and her) printed and bound them their selves all 500 copies of each. Desmond the Dinosaur, because she had bought a wooden carving of a dinosaur who looked very miserable, Cuthbert and Bimbo - the story of a giraffe and and an ant on yellow paper, and Benjamin the story of an elephant on grey paper. The rest is history...
Summary Bats are interesting creatures. This book tells many facts about bats and shows how they live. Including where and how they have their babies, how they get food, and how they get water.
Evaluation This book is sort of slow because there is no tension or climax but it is very informative. Overall I enjoy this book because it is not just bulleted facts but the facts are told by a narrator in a story type fashion.
Teaching I would use this book as a resource to read aloud in my classroom when we are learning about mammals. It would be a good way to let them know that mammals are more than just humans, cats, dogs, pigs, lions, etc. It introduces/reinforces the idea that mammals are all animals that give live birth.
